Went to my small town grocery store. They were out of club soda. ???

Go figure. I will have to wait till tomorrow to try the bread with club soda. Now have to go to Wal-mart in the morning.

Is there any substitute for the bisquick? Could I mix my own flour etc...? My hubby loves bread and I was just wishing I had some fresh bread to serve with dinner. If I could substitute the bisquick I could whip some up in time for dinner tonight!

I just typed in Bisquick substitute and a recipe came up.

TO MAKE BISQUICK SUBSTITUTION

6 c. unsifted flour
3 tbsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. salt
1 1/4 c. Crisco

Mix as for pie dough and store in tight container

There were many others this one just looked easiest. I am sure you could divide this to make a much small amout too.

Thanks,
That's what I was talking about. I knew there was a homemade version of bisquick but I didn't know the ratio of flour/baking powder/salt. If I don't try this recipe I'll buy some bisquick tomorrow.

Sounds like a good Christmas present for co-workers or neighbors. Put mix in a baggie tie ribbon around beer and attach instructions to the ribbon on a index card.

I've made the beer bread before & used self-rising flour which is differant then regular baking flour. Now I can't remember what else goes into it, it was something like 3 1/2 cups self-rising flour and one 12 oz. beer....i'll look later.

Well I got the bread in the oven. Used club soda and swirled some cinnamon in it. Looked about the same as with the beer when I mixed it up. Will let you know shortly.

PS USE EXTREAM CAUTION WHEN OPENING CLUB SODA [Unless you need a bath]

The bread with club soda turned out good. I cooked mine for 40 min. It does not have the yeasty taste like the bread made with beer. It was soft and kinda falling apart maybe needed to set a second or 2 before I cut it.

But it tasted wonderful. Will use more cinnamon next time tho.
