Alright, guys.

Now....
I too, wish the best for this country. I will always fly my flag proudly because being a proud American has nothing to do with who is in office. It has to do with what is in my heart and with my personal ethics and pride. It is deeper than politics.

I will always respect the President of the United States, whoever he or she might be. The President is the president. He is OUR president. You can't turn that off because you don't agree with him or his politics. He may not be who you voted for, but that doesn't make him any less the majority elected leader of the country.

I don't recall any presidents during my teen or adult lifetime -- so we're going back through Carter, here -- that I actually thought much of their politics, philosophies and policies. Some I have had more of a problem with than others, of course, but there haven't been ANY where I really said "wooo hooo, go baby!, now *that's* what we really oughta be doing with this country!!".

Yet, I notice that the country has more or less survived the past 30 years ( which have been, in many ways, more prosperous than at any other time in the nation's history) despite my general lack of faith in its leadership or degree of being impressed with its government policies

That probably means something, y'all - not just something about me, but about the nature of running a country, an' stuff like that.

Actually, I DID think it was wrong, but I sure as hades didn't take down my flag over it...... matter of fact I flew it more because it is my America too and I felt i needed to become even more involved until I felt I got my country back! That's the miracle that is America's democracy. I stood and paid my respects to the office even when the person holding it made me angry. I stand and pay my respect to the flag no matter what. It is my flag, but it is your flag too. You don't like who is in office, keep your eye on them let them know what you think. You didn't choose them, but they are still your president. they are still accountable to you - the extremely fortunate American citizen.

my flag will always fly too because it doesn't represent the highest office in the land it represents my love for my country and the men and women who have protected it.
I was in the army I know what it means to pledge your life for this country

Man, you sure are young. Before talking about how things are not race based, please do some research on your avatar. It's a bit hard to swallow...Not coming down on you, but i think you might have missed the history on that flag. You're not wearing a white hood, just cuz it looks hot, are you?

EDIT: Reading over your posts, i'm extremely impressed by how well spoken and well thought out you are given how young you are. I wish more people your age cared about politics the way you do. Red OR blue!!

Oh, I know what's behind the flag. I'm not ignorant.

But I'm also going to throw this out there -- heritage, not hate.

I'm not racist, not anymore than the next person just looking for the common good in people. Bad timing on putting my avatar up, though. I honestly didn't give it a second thought. I haven't been on much in the past couple of months due to the campaign, so I didn't put it on before. I do apologize for any offense it may have caused, though. I'm not like that.

And the presidentless thing was a wise crack.

Haven't you guys ever read any of my posts before? Goodness.

Maybe Barack can give out a sense of humor here and there as well.

It's a democracy and the majority of the American people selected Barack Obama as the next president. It's not a "wrong" to be righted. It would be a "wrong" if the election were fixed, decided unfairly by courts, or somehow illegal. As far as I could tell, it was a fair election.

If, in 4 years, you disagree with the political situation in the country, you will be given the chance to use your democratic right and vote for another presidential candidate. We each get 1 vote and 1 chance to use it. I used mine, you used yours, millions of others used theirs... and here we are.

There are lots of people who have spent the past 8 years living under a president they didn't vote for, but Bush was still the president of their country, like it or not.

It's up to each of us to give President Obama a chance in the next four years and see what happens. There are no givens in this office nor in this time.

No matter who your candidate was, your president will be the same as mine, the same as McCain's, and the same as every other American's.
