Alton Brown has me REALLY upset!!!

He's not a chef at all, never went to school for it, as i understand it. To me he approaches recipes like science projects, I've tried a few of his recipes and never kept one.

I didn't watch the video.

No No, he did graduate from the Culinary Institute and is well trained, but you are very correct, in that he is not considered a fine chef and does approach his cooking more like a science project. For me the real issue is that he is just trying to make remarks that would be considered cool, i.e. that he does not go on line for restaurants. For most people today we look at Trip Advisor, and our Ipads for apps like "Urban Spoon", "Where to Eat", and "Local Eats." I know that I could not be without them when travelling. As for recipes, very few people, comparitively, seek out Aloton Brown recipes. Again I look at my apps like "All Recipes", "Big Oven", "Epicurious." For his remarks regarding the internet.....he is out to lunch, breakfast and dinner.

I quote- My dad
" Alton Brown really can't cook, he just makes it look like he can. People only watch him bc he can hire good people to make good sets."
BTW: We were one of his fans for awhile

What bothers me is that he got a stage at Google's offices and is talking about things to which he is obviously clueless. What else bothers me: Just because he's famous his opinions are going to be considered accurate and factual by a large number of people who say, "Oh, well, he's famous so he must know what he's talking about!"

For example, say I was put on a stage with him and I argued against his insane points that internet recipes are useless and that you shouldn't listen to what people on forums say. Unfortunately a large number of people would believe him because he's famous and discredit me even though I live and breathe online communities, content, and engagement.

Mostly I'm just bothered when people put down the great content on the web and the content and people who participate in forums.
