Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm past the denial stage, on to the resignation stage.

Beautiful boy Kahlua!

He is GORGEOUS!!!

He is beautiful!!

I have a question (and please, this in no way is derogatory towards your cockerel - he truly is gorgeous), but I was told that any black in the hackles is unwanted. It is something that I've been working towards on both my blue wheaten and wheaten cockerels. Am I mistaken in this?

I don't see black in his hackle (neck) feathers

I think he looks really good.

Okay...let's use my wheaten Ameraucanas for an example, because they both Do have black in their hackles :).... My question is - is this something that should be eliminated?

This is my blue wheaten, Emory Lewis (about 7 months old here)

And, Hawkeye - my wheaten cockerel

There are things about both of these guys that I really like, but I understand that the black in the hackles is not a good thing....

There should be no dark striping in the hackles of the Blue Wheaten or Wheatens. Having said that, Kahlua's cockerel's hackles are about as good as I've seen. What I see is in the lower part of the neck. What you definitely don't want is to see black striping up higher on the neck. Samouw's Wheaten is definitely showing more than what I'd want to see in my male.

God Bless,

Thank you!

I really didn't mean to imply that Kahlua was somehow defective. He's a gorgeous cockerel and I'd be thrilled to have one like him here.

I'm hoping this next generation helps with the black in the hackles. :)
