Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

This is the black hen who is molting.

beard, muffs probably molted, red face, eyes orangish, legs look like they could be slate- cant tell tail stance but looks good for Ameraucana

This is the blue? girl. EE? or Ameraucana?

legs look yellow cast-check pads, yellow would be EE
that comb is kinda floppy for a pea and the coloring on the breast would indicate cross so it is an EE

I KNOW this is an EE girl

-cool looking EE gal

AND the Blue? roo. EE? or Ameraucana?

beard, muff(probably pulled out by hens) eyes are on the yellow side, comb is cresty for a pea-but he looks Ameraucana
the red leakage on the hackles is undesirable and hard to breed out, but it has to do with the color pigment, not wether or not it is pure bred.
If he has it anywhere else, he could be a cross of colors, but it looks like typical red leaking, not like the hen that has a pattern in her brown feathers.

I don't know all that much about Whitmore's ameraucanas- but they do have nice welsummers! If they are though- I would only use the black if you intend to sell. Birds that leak gold/red will pass it on to thier offspring, and you don't want to sell something that will come back to haunt you. No problem hatching some though and see how they grow out! Wosrt-case scenario- you could sell them as really nice EEs.

BTW- I have a free split/ lav roo. Might be ncie with your black hen

THANKS cottagegarden! That gives me something to work with! So I need to seperate the bluish hen and the EE hen and breed that roo to the black gal...when she decides to lay, and see what I get from those two, right? I can do that

Huh whitmore farm really! I know Will well and have owned his ameraucana but the blue hen and blue male don't look like the ones I have had from his stock. So the person got the parent birds from Will or those birds directly from him. If they aren't directly from him I would suspect they are mixed with something. I did get an olive egger MaransxAmeraucana cross from him once though. The black looks pure Ameraucana the rest are EE's or Ameraucana with serious leakage problems.

Well, I think if it was me I would take HappyMtn up on that split Lav Roo with your black hen and hatch up some Lav gals. Ha Ha Ha!! Enabling done for the day.
The blue roo and black hen will give you chicks of both but he will pass that color to them and it could be worse if she is carrying it too. Not great for Ameraucanas, but probably very cool color combos for a laying flock that lays blue eggs. People would love that!!
And if you hadnt said they all laid blue I would swear the blue hen was an Olive Egger!! Very pretty girls, and blue eggs to boot.

hcammack~Whitemore was the original stock...not sure how long they have had these birds and how long they have bred them or IF they put different stock in etc. etc. Actually I don't think that roo was from there either. A lady got these for me to breed them for her as Ameraucanas, and I/we wanted to be positive they were Ameraucanas! I think I remember she said she got the roo from somewhere else besides the farm that had Whitemore birds. Anyway, I did look up Whitemore, and

Yeah...I needs a new roo. This guy is a bit nasty anyway, and I really don't want to breed THAT either. So, roo shopping I go. Going to get a map from here to Pikeville and call in sick tomorrow to make that trip

Just so you know though that map with Pikeville on it has no little towns around it for a reason....such a peaceful nice drive you will like it.
