American serama thread!

Really? Belle my grown hen can fly over 6 ft up. She gets on top of the 6ft rabbit mansion all the time. I wonder if she is just a fluke? She's an incredible flyer. She is much better than Taco. She even flies with her diaper on.
I think I will have to try this!!! Maybe I'll even increase my hatch rate! Although my last hatch and ONLY hatch to not get totally bashed and destroyed in transit had 100% hatch rate, even though one of the babies died because Turtle pecked him down tot he skull =(
I'm sorry Turtle hurt the one. He knew not what he did :( Yah, I'm sure mine can fly more, they do fly quite a horizontal distance when they want to get away! Since they may go wherever they want in the yard, and there are big dogs over every fence, they seem content to stay where the grass is or in the patio, LOL, and don't bother to fly very high I guess.
baby update, not really babies anymore, had to seperate slick, he is doing the caveman routine and poor little gizmo is losing her head feathers

Awww, they're all so cute and look to be the same age as my two NYD hatched boys :)
Remember those two black and white peeps I posted a few weeks back? They are indeed, feathering out pretty close to their down pattern. :D Here are Raine and London, almost 4 weeks old now

Wow, I love how they're coming along! If they turn mottled, that would also be cool!

My mottled pullet looked a lot like them when she was younger.

How cool, I think my Luna is Partridge Mottled, is there such a thing? LOL. She started off looking partridge with a white belly, then the white spots started appearing all over her, LOL. Very fun the way they change!
Thank you! Yes they eat like pigs and think they are tough BIG birds!
More please cosmo.

So true!

Hmmmm I'd question whether those are pure Serama that they have, and I'm glad you went with private breeders.
They definitely don't look very up to standard, but really when are "hatcheries" ever very standard-abiding lol
They look kinds like my pet quality pair though, a little more horizontal but same features.

It was quite sad. He pecked him nearly to death, totally scalped the poor baby, he didn't last long after that. The babies are almost larger than the serama so soon they can defend themselves! I never really see Taco fly, just Belle, but who knows! They are sure fun to watch though

well basically Serama in Malaysia are small(bantam),they can expand their chest so big that their head look like it was eaten by the chest,if u give em a bowl of pellet, they will surely finish it due to their nasty appatite, they are small but very brave, try to introduce Shamo or Asil chicken,100% the Serama will attack, but surely he will be deafeted cause of its small size,Serama Tournament are held in many part of Malaysia, they are 2 chickens tournament that held in Malaysia, the legal and the illegal, the Legal one is the Serama Tournament, the illegal one is the Cockfight, here in Malaysia we dont have Chicken Exibition like in america,if there is then there's not much maybe 1 or 2 event once in 3 years maybe...some say that Serama were crossbreed between chicken and a pigeon because of its small size however NO one realy knows their breed originated from they only know Serama as Serama, and the most cool parts of the Serama is their Chest, because they can expand their chest so big and stand straight like a soldier dropping its wing down with is small size people start to introduce them as house pet and for Tournament purpose,Serama are also the smallest breed there is,they have high pitch crow and travel quite a distance, they show off alot, they are brave, they are proud they are nice to hold..here are some Malaysia Serama

I'd agree with partridge mottled too, although there's probably some other name for it, lol. I love how they change too, I can't for my serama babies to start hatching so I can see what they look like. Only about 2 1/2 more weeks, lol.

thx guys...well im no Expert in Serama breed, but i tell u one more thing and that is that some Serama Rooster Loves to ride on big hens such as jersey, oprington, plymourth and any other big lady's cause this make The Serama feel like hes the "BOSS"..and make em feel ,proud, high and like hes the king, but be carefull because that Male Serama might feel like he's the DON around there and the Don duty is to protect the lady so when its feeding time guess what...FALCON KICK IS DELIVERED RIGHT IN THE FACE...

I think any color can be mottled, since it is a separate gene from the basic "color"...it's a modifier I guess. So it does sound like you got a partridge mottled!

Got 18 eggs from Castle Delight Seramas in the mail yesterday! Laura does an amazing job at packaging! Not one egg was damaged! They are sitting now, and will be in the incubator in a few hours! Trying some new techniques with these eggs since I have had a 0% hatchrate with my Serama eggs so far.

Plus we will have our new RCom incubator in a few days that I can move them to for even better stability!!

Really, why is it the 3 weeks waiting for eggs to hatch is an eternity and the 3 weeks after fly like the blink of an eye?

It's just like having a parrot!!!
With diapers that run under foot and that you throw sunflower seeds on the floor for while yelling at the kids for dropping same on same floor

That's pretty funny. My Sirius surprised me by being afraid of my bantam Sultan. I thought he'd challenge my Sultan, but he ran away instead!
what causes a roo to get laryngitis? Jet can barely crow this morning....
I dunno, but I wish my Sultan Charlie would catch it!

Oh! I got the name of a color right for once then! LOL
Can't answer the why, but it's happened to both my adult roos at one time or another. Around here there's lots of crowing competition so, probably had something to do with it. Never fear, the voice always comes back, unfortunately
