American serama thread!

My newest serama chicks-from shahtir101 eggs. Five from a dozen shipped eggs. Nice healthy robust chicks. Shahtir101 did a great job packing the eggs for shipping. If you're looking to buy hatching eggs, I definitely endorse shatir101.

Anyone ever take their extra (culls) to an auction??? There's a poultry auction on the tenth of December in Scotts Hill. I'm going to give it a try. Problem is...not buying birds!! Last time we came home with 9 sebrights and a couple of large laying hens. We only wanted a trio of sebrights, but ended up with the whole cage full; not knowing they were being auctioned as a single unit.

Wonderful colors! That's what makes Serama so much fun. It also makes incubating them a lot more addictive!

The term "Sizzle" causes consternation with some people. I was informed that a sizzle is a frizzled silkie and not a silkied frizzle serama. Oh well...

It's all just feather genes no matter the breed of chicken. I wasn't sure so I just emailed one of the Serama judges and asked. Here is her quote..

"You will get either a smooth or frizzle, hiding the silkied gene. I don't recommend it. I've seen birds that express both silkied and frizzled (sizzle is a term sometimes applied), and they are not very pretty."

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the information-hope it's wrong. I've seen pictures of frizzled silkied serama; I liked what I saw. To each his/her own I guess. I have a frazzle pullet and to me she is just nasty to look at. My wife thinks she is beautiful. Go figure!

Another chick picture.

Five of these chicks are the results of a frizzle/frizzle pairing. One is smooth feathered and the other four are frizzle; no frazzle this time. At least they do not look like the one frazzle that hatched previously; even the down was different on that one. The down was coarse looking; like something had spilled and dried on it.

Beautiful chicks! I think there's every bit as good of a chance to get really cute as there is to get poor feather shafts. I can't wait to see them :)

My broody serama is doing a great job. Still on her 6 eggs. I have 10 in the incubator. These are a combination of a dozen I won in the MPC contest, and my girls' eggs too. Today is day 15!

Here are some chicks from my latest hatch! Only got 2 boys! Anyways here they are! They seem like typical brothers! Always trying to prove that they are better than the other!

They remind me a lot of their parents!

I've had serama hatch from day 19 to day 22 so be prepared for early arrivals. Most of mine hatch on day
