thank you everyone on the information about bouncing babies...that makes me feel better. Bumble is doing fine and in fact is right now asleep, under my shirt, on my chest...kind of propped against my bra. It is so funny. Making all kinds of baby luv-luv sounds. Bumble is just in heaven...unless I move and he/she slips a bit.

I do have a couple of photos I want to ask about (bumble is on a table...not me):
Bumble is right at a week old and his/her wing feathers have got real long real fast. Can you tell gender from this? Just curious. There are some who seem to be able to tell this stuff...I am still learning.

any ideas? I am just curious...this baby is going no where. other than back in to the brooder box so I can make dinner. NO I do not have a house chicken in the making...but I think I DO have a very spoiled PET chicken in the making.

One of my 4 eggs is pipping and I can't wait to see what I get from this hatch. I have a nice assortment of colors from my previous hatches and some of them are nice and chesty so far. I've got the nursery ready to go and hopefully tomorrow I will have the garage cages with heaters all set up so that I can move some of the older ones there. If all of them hatch, I will have a total from all of my hatches of 20 young and baby serums. I do need to think about selling some but I am so fascinated by their changing color , that I don't think I can let any go for a while. Oh well, I suppose we all have this problem because they are so cute!! I need to think if I want to put about 4 more eggs in when these hatch! Just can't seem to stop!

I would absolutely freak out. I would never hold the baby again I would be so wigged out. Gosh that is scary. They can be slippery little buggers though.

4cats3kids1hubby2many: I don't think you can tell sex by that, feather-sexing is a breed-specific trait that does not work for all birds. But you shouldn't have to wait too long...if Bumble is a boy, chances are he'll start crowing in 4-5 weeks....or at least trying to

LOL....the feather part. I was hoping it would tell me. Now it makes me wonder...what I thought was a little cockerel....outside...is a good 8 weeks, maybe 10 weeks. I have never heard anything from him like that. I only thought it was a HE because his comb was bit bigger than what I am sure is a pullet.

I will watch for Bumble to try and act "studley".

I'm so excited, tomorrow my new improved serama run will get started!

I did as much as I physically could and now have to hire someone to do the digging, erecting of the redwood and wire. Pictures to come of course.......
