American serama thread!

Yes! Tiny seramas especially need vitamins. I have some vitamins and electrolytes that I always stick in my birds' water. I also sprinkle it on my baby seramas' food because I have some teeny tinies that grow feathers but don't grow in size for the first month or two of their lives. It's very important to make sure they have plenty of supplemental vitamins. I just buy Durvet vitamins and electrolytes for them and all of my birds seem to get what they need from it.

** I wanted to add that wheat germ has MANY benefits for poultry. It can stop shell death, improve fertility in eggs, improve egg production, and make feathers shiny and BEAUTIFUL. It's good for digestive health for birds AND for people. I use wheat germ on my birds and I buy it in bulk. I have not had shell deaths in any of my babies since I started using it.
I ONLY give wheat germ to my girls because I have heard that it can give males ginormous combs. <-- Don't know for sure about the male combs but I'd rather not find out!

I'm raising Seramas, not Japanese.

I wanted to share some of my frizzled seramas! I am currently working on whites, blacks, wheatons, black tailed whites, black tailed buffs, gingers, and silver gingers. After my new incubator arrives I will be working on mottled and mille fleur - and if someone is kind enough to sell me some lovely smooth feathered blues and chocolates I will be adding blue wheaton, porcelain, blue mottled, chocolate mottled, and chocolate wheaton to the mix! I ONLY breed frizzled to smooths. I will have more pictures later on. Enjoy, and remember that they are a work in progress!

My sweet Curly Bean.

Lambchop, a sweet black tailed white frizzled pullet. Please ignore the "limo" serama in the back - That is Marigold's body and a tiny wheaton male's head. Actually kind of funny looking.

Johnny - a tiny frizzled wheaton cockeral. He's gonna look just like his daddy.

A very tiny frizzled wheaton baby - he is a month old in this picture and is the size of most of my day old chicks.

One of many springy little white frizzled babies.

Thanks for looking!

Pssttt...

Asked a few pages over, but I will ask again. ^^

I have serama eggs on the way and I'm still new to hatching. Any tips to help me get a semi-successful hatch? Never tried hatching seramas before!

Thank you to everyone for your advice about getting rid of these very stubborn mites. Looks like I am going to have to go to our local mill/feedstore and see about buying some Frontline. I thought I was supposed to put the drop on the back of the neck, but the vent is where the mites seem to congregate so I guess it makes sense to put the drop near there. Above or below, and how far away from the vent? Thank you again - you all are so helpful!

you could buy a single dose at the vet for about $15, also, i bath my seramas weekly, in adams flea shampoo.... i will probably be getting some frontline also, its better than ivomec?

The two times that i tried to hatch Serama eggs - well they were shipped ones sadly did not prove very fruitful - i got nothing . But hopefully someone else can chime in regards humidity or anythign special or different they do?

Showing question please-
I know that the weight of the serama is important and for cage show if you are over or under you are dq'd but I have seen over weight birds in cage show and was wondering if you can request a weight? Are they dq'd if over or under weight?
