Ancona/Australorp Mixes

Hey there!

I know it’s probably too early to tell, but I wanted to open a thread on guessing the genders of my three new Ancona/Australorp crosses. I’ll post new pics each week. We aren’t sure exactly what day they hatched, but are guessing they are 10-12 days old. Anyone care to hazard a very early guess?

That's really pretty risky to say that. There is no color at all, and a lot of pullets have combs that size when young. I don't see anything drastic about it.

It's a guess. They asked for guesses.

Well If I absolutely had to call it now, I would say pullet, cockerel, pullet BUT it is really too soon. I always say three weeks (21 days) is the absolute minimum to tell the sex. Four to six weeks is a more reliable age.

For some reason, I feel a lot of people say they want guesses, but then it's more than likely that they see it and dont take it as a guess. Some people are just so anxious to know the gender, they will stick with anything! Sure wouldn't want someone selling off a nice pullet.

Nope, I just want guesses. I figured it would be fun to see what people think as they grow. I'm in no rush, and don't live in an area where it matters if I have a roo. If I end up with two, I will trade him for a pullet from the friend I got them from. Merely curious, that's all!

Okay! As long as you know that nothing is really definite. There actually isn't even anything that could tell between the two at the moment.
