Hello Everyone,

On June 7, 2018 my Blue Andalusian laid her first egg. It was oddly long, but roughly the size of a normal store bought egg. Ever since she laid her first egg, her egg size has been decreasing. I don’t know what a “normal” size egg is supposed to look like, being new to raising chickens and seeing the different types of eggs and sizes that hens produce. I was hoping for some pictures (and advice) of your Blue Andalusian eggs to use as a comparasion to mine! Also, do Blue Andalusians have a bluish-tint to their eggs because I’ve seen a variety of eggs that are completely white (like mine) and some that have a blueish-tint.

Is it also normal for Blue Andalusians to not lay an egg everyday? My hen has laid 8 out of 11 days since she started.

I also have a concern for my hen’s comb. It has been wilted down and pale pink or light pink some days, but never a deep bright red as people say it should look. As I should add, I live in South Texas where temperatures have been over 90-100 degrees. I’ve been debating if it’s just dehydration or heat exhaustion because she eats, drinks, and relaxes freely. She is not cage or run bound. I see no loss in feathers or appetite as well. I also checked for lice and mites this morning and found no bites or anything unusual. They do bathe in DE in their dusting bath area and I have sprayed our yard to kill off fleas.

If anyone could please provide some advise for me, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thank you so much BYC community!

Your hen is still a new layer and needs to work out the glitches in the system. Some can take months to regulate. Andalusian should lay around 5 eggs a week on average, so you won't see one daily. She will do her best laying her first season than decrease each year.

The comb looks okay to me. It will shrink and enlarge based on temperatures and stage of lay.

He eggs should be white with no blue in them.

Very nice pic and labels for eggs!

Looks like a pretty normal progression of size to me.
Pullet eggs can take weeks to months to gain size.
Was that long skinny one a double yolker?
