animal control came and said to get rid of my chickens!

thats basically what we said, our chickens are not livestock, but pets, now all we have to do, is get them to believe it. All of us here know that, but what about city commissioners and such? What really is getting me right now, is the stupid neighbor who won't let up, and keeps calling the ACO, and he told the hubby, he doesn't care about the chickens, it just this miserable old guy keeps calling about them, and he thinks, that he may go over his head, to his boss, who will then get on him for not "taking care of the situation".

YOU SEE FOLKS? THATS WHAT THEY MAKE SHOTGUNS FOR.....

CHECK YOUR ANIMAL REGS--- MOST PLACE STATE "ANY ANIMAL MOLESTING DOMESTIC STOCK IS TO BE SHOT ON SIGHT" I KNOW ALL OF OURS DO AND IN MANY OTHER STATES THATS TRUE AS WELL. ITS A SERIOUS MISJUSTICE THAT THE DOG SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE OWNERS IRRESPONSIBILITY AND WHITE TRASH WAYS, BUT AT LEAST ITS A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AT HAND...

In Texas, you can even shoot people too if they're on your property without consent. Even the police unless they have a warrant.
This guy once shot a burglar for going on his property and killed him. The family tried to sue him but there wasn't anything they could do.
You should look that up too.

Animal Control would have to leave you alone.

This sounds too familiar, when i was looking into getting my chickens, i called the city clerks office, they could not give me an answer. So then I called the local perdue extension office, no help either. They refered me to animal control who then sent me to the city attorney's office. The city attorney pushed the issue off to one of their paralegals who said they would look into the issue and call me back monday. (that was 3 weeks ago).

So now I have 5 NHR chicks and am finishing my pen, and awaiting the visit from animal controll telling me to get rid of them. Since our city ordanances did not include chickens in their definition of livestock, and the only ordanance requarding chickens states that baby chicks (under 8 weeks) bought or sold within city limits must be transfered in quantaties of six or more, I feel I have a good case to keep my hens.

Also you can start a petition. Write a formal type letter explaining how you chickens are kept, what for, and how much they mean to your family. Then go around two blocks in all directions and get as many neighbors as you can to sign the petition for you to keep your chickens. Have the neighbors who do sign write their address as well.

I was thinking about just that. I've got signatures from people, when we were at PetSupermarket. I think though, like you said, the neighbors, that would help. With the exception of the idiot next door. Well, maybe we should ask him, and then see what he has to say? After all, he went anonoymously. Does he think we're stupid??

If you really dont want to kill the dogs but want to send a message, simply pepper spray the dogs until they are soaking wet. they will run home and shake off in the owners house.

worked for me!
