This new set up just made me buy the GFM. Hope my membership shows up soon. I am sure, this is why the move was made. I think the 20.00 for annual membership is still alot cheaper than e-bay. If you make 10 sales a month here at 15.00 per sale, that is 150 dollars a month. And if you are selling more than 10 a month, then you are rolling in the chicken dough and can afford to pay a surcharge on the extra sells. I see it as paying for a service that you are definitely making a living at and it is much cheaper than setting up your own website and trying to get traffic to it.

Nifty Change is good..will all work out in no time..

OK I read through all the replies and I don't think I saw this asked or answered but I might have missed it.

If you wanted to do an auction that was a local pickup only could you put $0 ( or ??? $) in shipping and then mention local pickup only in the title and auction info? Or do you HAVE to be willing/able to ship if you put an auction up?

thanks!

I sell more than 10 and believe me I'm not "rolling" in chicken dough, It cost $$ for their upkeep and its not cheap. Even with what I sale I dont break even, but I love my chickens so I have to do something to support them,I do think if you can afford it, I know some of us have a hard time, but if you can afford it the GFM is a good thing to help keep the site running.

If this was really for everyone's benefit then simple changes could have been made on the BST boards..simple don't allow replies take that away that takes away chit chat and bumping posts.Separate the posts by day and only allow sellers to post x many times so those of us that post many breeds ages etc in one post can do so...personally who has the time for all of those ads anyways.
Craigslist is very successful and there are no replies there a simple e-mail or PM is all it would take..leave the chit chat for the chit chat boards and leave the sellers alone.

I truly don't understand where this "affording a GFM membership" comes from. It costs $1.66 a month, or .38 cents a week. So essentially, it will cost you $1.66 to be able to have 10 auctions a month. Thats .17 cents per auction. If you are unwilling to pay .17 for the privilege of using all the software that Nifty has created, not to mention a captive audience of 40,000 people, then you probably don't need to be using these auctions.

Web sites are fairly cheap and or free to have and run..$29.00 dollars a year for a web site with the .com after your name is what we use.. at freewebs

however one can build a free website on free-webs for free..

www.freewebs.com

Then its just a matter of getting that link out there for exposure..

I'm sorry, but many of us are not 'rolling in the chicken dough'. I sold all my quails' eggs for the past 4-5 months, at maybe $40 a week. That was enough to cover my feed bill while I waited for my school grants to be approved. Plus a lot of people buy from members here, since they know that most of us know what we're doing. You don't have that luxury with ebay. On ebay you are just another listing, people will pay more for my eggs here because they know that I have a lot of success. I've never sold anything for more than $25 on here, and that was for 12+ on duck eggs! I don't think $25 or even $40 is rolling in any kind of dough.
