Another USPS rant!

Well, hopefully I'll get a call in the morning that they've made it to my local PO. There's still no new tracking info though, so I'm not optimistic. I'm getting 16 SS from the Gary farm and 10 Dominique from Steve Wheat in Alabama. If I ever receive them and they're not "smushed" I'll try my best to get a few chicks. What an ordeal. I'm exhausted....I'll let you all know when I receive them and what condition they're in.
Later,
Martha in TX

I don't understand why people rant about the USPS. They deliver millions, billions, trillions of pieces of mail and packages. It should be expected that there will be problems on occasion. I happen to be one that appreciates their service. More often than not they do an incredible job.

BECAUSE IT'S MY PACKAGE, AND I WANT IT NOW.
I do appreciate the service and my carrier AND the fact that when I've pointed out a problem with service, it has been fixed. Sometimes by phone or email, but best results with face-to-face discussions with our carrier, carrier supervisor and the postmaster, but the problems were fixed.

Hope your package arrives intact and soon!

Well, I agree with you that we should not be surprised when mail gets delayed occasionally. But I've got a box of eggs somewhere between Atlanta and Lindale, TX which should have been delivered yesterday, and another somewhere between Birmingham and here that should have been here today. If I don't receive them tomorrow, then it will be Monday (hopefully) and the chances of having a successful hatch (of my first shipped eggs, mind you) are getting slimmer.
I'm sure you can appreciate my frustration.

Been there myself. Yes, I do understand it is frustrating. However, without the USPS we would not even be able to ship eggs or birds. None of the other delivery services will even accept them. I appreciate what we have.

I too, have had excellent usps deliveries. I pay extra for express, let the local postal workers know what I am expecting and they call me as soon as they get the box.Talk to your carrier. I am sure he(or she) would be happy to call you in the morning(Ask that the shipper includes your phone number on the shipping address) for you to pick up the box at the PO. As for the letter carrier (City carrier, or rural carrier?) who tossed the egg box with the comment of here's your eggs, well maybe he (or she) is just a jerk. Many carriers are decent and do their best .

Believe me, it's not my local post office that's at fault. I live in a small town and know them all and they are just as concerned as I am about these packages. One lady this morning even offered to drop them by if the eggs got there before she left work. They were just as shocked as I was to see that the box from Gary farm sat in Atlanta, GA for over 36 hours and could still be there, for all I know. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get them tomorrow. I'm trying to stay positive!

UPS worker hit my dog with his car when he was speeding up our driveway and killed him. the guy was so rude about it i was 13 years old and home alone and the guy just left after telling me he hit my dog and that he was going to be late for where ever he was going. my dad got the guy fired, now we have a new UPS worker that speeds up our neighberhood road ive considered putting up signs.

We've got excellent USPS service. Our mail gets there much faster from our local post office (no matter where it is going) than the larger city a county over that I work in. Our mail man is nice, will drive up our 1/4 mile lane and will occasionally even open my car door and put package in there if not hot outside. Very good service, had to put in my .02 in.

I have had issues with fed ex and a little with ups comparatively though.

Believe it or not we also have the best BMV of anyplace I've ever lived, I tell them every single time I go in. I have lived in big cities and small and service in this town rocks!

If I'd had bad experience I would have shared!

Well, I'm still waiting for last month's electric bill which should have arrived by Sept 30. So I went online, signed up for online billing/payment. Thus the USP(no service) is out another ten bucks or so a year. Every time they fail they cost themselves money. That being said, our local PO and rural delivery people are great be it calling when chicks arrive or bringing packages to the door it they don't fit in the mailbox. The problem lies further up the line, in fact, I've had the local PO tell me the distribution centers are a mess primarily because the workers there don't seem to care.

Update on shipped eggs: Well, I got a call this morning (Saturday) from my local PO that 1, only 1, box was there. The other box was still in the Tyler Distribution Center. Why they didn't send it with the one I got I'll never know. She gave me the phone number so I could call and hopefully drive to Tyler (20 miles) and get it myself, but they never answered and have not returned my call (I left a message). I asked my local lady what if I just drove over there and showed up to get my package. She said they probably would not open the door, even if I rang the bell. So...being the nice lady she is, she offered to check tomorrow (Sunday) to see if my 2nd box made it and will give me a call so I can meet her up there and get it. As I've said in previous posts, the problem is not with the local people, it's up the line, in the distribution centers, where employees are not doing their jobs.
On a positive note though...the box I received this morning is in excellent condition. I've got my 15 SS eggs "resting" in the incubator. Hopefully I'll get a decent hatch rate.
Till later...Martha

I could beat the postal people with a stick, I swear!

texas, I'm glad to hear you got one. And even happier to hear she's going to check in on it tomorrow when she's not working just to help you out! Now that is customer service, I wish more people were like that.

Looks like I found the right thread. I've spent $165 in the last two months for rare breed birds and eggs. Of the 15 eggs I got, all but 2 were scrambled inside the shells. Air cells busted, yolks busted and mixed with the whites. Fortunately, the two eggs hatched, so at least I got something out of it. I ordered a dozen buckeye chicks, too. They were shipped on a Wednesday, got them Saturday. Three alive when I picked them up, but two died on the way home. The breeder sent me another box this Wednesday. They came in this morning. The post office called me and said they had them, but they were all dead. He sent them priority mail. She said priority mail is usually 2-3 days, but its not guaranteed, so he should have sent them express. Essentially, USPS says it is not responsible for the chicks getting here late and dead. 36 rare breed birds dead because they cant respect the fact that living things are in the box.
