Any Home Bakers Here?

Hi Quackers Mama, glad to have you join us!

Just for fun, I looked up some healthy Halloween treats, a lot of the ones were pretty ordinary (roasted pumpkin seed-type things), but iVillage has some clever ideas. If I still worked in an office, I'd be trying a couple of these (loved the spider deviled eggs lol). See what you think of the link:

Great link…I don't have children ' cause I never grew up. Gotta try several of these.

I have just gotten into making bread. It tastes pretty good too (for something I made)

I am the only one my age that makes bread in my school, so people laugh at me, but they like to eat it.. haha (I am a teenager)

Congrats on learning how to bake bread! Wish I would have started younger so I didn't waste so much buying it for years at the store. I enjoy doing it, I find it relaxing and good "therapy" as it always puts me in a good mood (especially when my husband loves it so much).

Thanks for joining us mistifier99!

What's casserole cheese bread?

Sorry that I missed this.
It is sort of a cross between a quick bread and a regular yeast bread. Fairly quick, and really easy.
It is good with diced pepperoni in it also, different cheeses give different flavor, strong flavored cheeses are best; add herbs, garlic, etc. It is pretty flexible.

Casserole Cheese Bread

Ingredients:
1 c milk (scalded)
3 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp shortening (crisco)
1 c warm water
2 pkg yeast
4 1/2 c flour
1 c grated cheese (cheddar is good)

Directions:
Scald milk and stir in sugar, salt and shortening. Let cool to lukewarm.
Measure warm water into large bowl and add yeast. Stir to dissolve, then add milk mixture and flour, one cup at a time, and the cheese, stirring well after each. Stir until well blended - about 2 minutes by hand.
Cover and let rise for about 40 minutes.
Stir the batter down, and beat vigorously for about 1 minute. Turn into a greased 1 3/4 or 2 quart casserole dish.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 55 minutes. You may need to place foil loosely over top if it starts to brown too quickly.
Let cool for 10-12 minutes, loosen sides with knife and turn out of dish.

Ooh, that sounds good! We have pasta quite often, this would be a nice change from garlic toast. Thanks WyoDreamer!

I like to bake too, and I'm still a teenager. Now you don't have to feel so alone.

I only have one recipe I make for bread, though. It's super easy, since it has only... I think ... five ingredients? I haven't made it in a while, I prefer to bake desserts. I tried both of the carrot cake recipes on here, both were good, but my brother told me that I should make something with chocolate in it. If I get around to it then I'll make double chocolate cookies and post the recipe for you guys.

Sounds delicious..even I may not be too lazy to try this.

I started baking when I was around 12-13 yo. My siblings all learned to cook, but I only enjoyed baking - cookies, cakes, pies. Never tried breads til older and my mom gave me a bread machine.

Let them laugh….you will be the one who laughs last.

Don't know if you do or are interested, but if you enjoy baking, have you learned to sew?

I don't know about the person who you are asking, but I do know how to sew. It's fun, but I prefer knitting. Knitting is more time consuming though. I started learning to bake and cook when I was about 7 years old... I don't know why, but I've always been inclined to learn all those fun, homey skills. My sister, though, does not. I guess she doesn't have to learn since I'm the one who always cooks for them if our mom and dad are out.

I love to knit, but have not had an opportunity since I adopted Buddy cat…he loves the yarn. Even if I wait til he's taking a cat nap, all it takes is a click of the needles and he's in my yarn!
