Any Home Bakers Here?

I started baking when I was around 12-13 yo. My siblings all learned to cook, but I only enjoyed baking - cookies, cakes, pies. Never tried breads til older and my mom gave me a bread machine.

Let them laugh….you will be the one who laughs last.

Don't know if you do or are interested, but if you enjoy baking, have you learned to sew?

Yep, I sew and knit.. I want to get into baking more (but I really don't like eating sweet or savoury foods, but loooove cooking them) I am a tad bit strange.. haha..

I love to knit, but have not had an opportunity since I adopted Buddy cat…he loves the yarn. Even if I wait til he's taking a cat nap, all it takes is a click of the needles and he's in my yarn!

You could lock yourself in a bedroom where he can't get to you... might work for a little while at least?

LOL - I have to hide from my pets sometimes.

sunflour - you could make him a cat toy out of yarn that he can play with ONLY while you knit (so it's new and exciting, not just the same old toy he sees all the time) - though if he's anything like my cats you'll have to pretend he's really not supposed to have it to make him want it

Everyone should have a cat like my Buddy…he demands attention. If I lock him out of a room, he is quite mornfully verbal and scratches at the door til it is opened. He has all kinds of toys but only wants to play with interactive ones….human has to be involved. Occasionally he'll play solo with a new catnip filled toy….or anytime a real mouse gets in my house…catch, release, chase, catch til we can get it away from him. He's a spoiled only child…chickens are in coop outdoors, but Buddy is king of the house.

Hey you bakers...whatcha' been baking lately?

I've made (and helped eat, lol) peanut butter cookies and challah. Now that the cookies are gone, I'm thinking chocolate cake with coconut buttercream frosting tomorrow...my husband loves something sweet with his afternoon coffee. And of course, I don't mind helping him out!
I've been making homemade applesauce, homemade yogurt and I replaced a windshield wiper transmission today....on top of going to a 3 hour class....busy day.

I make mine from McIntosh and Golden Delicious. I like it chunky. It's turned out well so far, so here's hoping!
Do you use a pressure canner? we got one last year and I trust it.

Don't know what McIntosh apples are…if you ever can find the Cameo's try them. Crisp, sweet, love them. But they are an old cultivar and maybe only available from north Ga..don't know.

Have you ever made fresh fried apple pies…an old Southern thing? So good but I only make one batch a year. Basically you roll out canned biscuits, place your applesauce + cinnamon mixture in and fry. So high calorie, but delicious. Took me several years to reproduce those my mom used to do.

I just boil can my stuff. This is our first year canning, so I got a 20qt pot with a can rack in it. So far we really love it!! I've canned 2 batches of applesauce (it's boiling at this moment), a batch of crushed tomatoes, and a batch of strawberry-rhubarb jam. My grandma sent me down a whole box of jars so all we had to do was get lids for them!

McIntosh apples are a tart Michigan apple (that's where I'm at) they grow especially well up here. They are small, but very very crisp. They go great with popcorn, are great for pies, and in apple sauce they cook down to make the "sauce" part and the golden delicious apples I use stay firm enough to make up the "chunky" part. They are my favorite apple.

I have never made fried apple pies, but I do make apple pies every year for thanksgiving and Christmas. I make it with this really great crumble crust (from my mom's side of the family). It always turns out delicious! And they have a ton of calories too!
