BullChick, You would be happy with the results cooking with Cast Iron. They are heavy. There is an article in GRIT magazine this month and they have blueberries muffins in a cast iron piece, and the no knead bread recipe, cooked in a cast iron Dutch Oven with a lid.
Lid goes on first 30 minutes then removed to brown. I am glong to try soon.
I had to put the skillets away to resist temptation. No joke. When hearing about the nightmare I endured, a friend jokingly said to hit him upside the head with a skillet. If I didn’t hide them from myself, I might have done it.
I’ve been alone three years. I think it’s okay now.

With all the talk of baking bread. I find it interesting that no one has mentioned one of my childhood favorites. My mother would take a piece of yeast bread dough and make it round and flat. She would then fry the dough in a skillet and roll it in sugar once finished frying. The fried bread dough never lasted very long with all of it being consumed while it was still warm out of the skillet.

We would roll dough into sticks and fry them. Sprinkled with cinnamon sugar!

darn had not thought of that in years Grandma would make it poor mans pastry

We only use cast iron skillets. The smaller one sees much more use than the big one these days. I also have a small enamel coated dutch oven that I use a lot. I love the versatility og going from stove to oven for some things.

I have Caphelon for daily, cast iron daily, glass bake ware.. Ma knew she was passing she gave me this 3 quart cast iron covered in porcelain dutch oven love it my go to now

For some reason that made me think of my mom taking pie dough scraps, sprinkling them with cinnamon sugar then baking them. I thought those were her best ever cookies :D

If I have an apple handy, I use the extra pie dough to make an apple dumpling. If not, I roll out the dough, butter it and spread sucralose and cinnamon on it. I then roll it up tightly and form into a circle in a pie pan and throw it in the oven with the pie. It depends on how gooey I want it as to how long I leave it in with the pie.
