It is not necessary.

You pre bake the dough and then wrap it up and freeze for later. One thing it will do is keep the sauce from baking into the dough. You can do the same thing by brushing some olive oil onto the dough before putting the sauce on.
You’re right. My recipe calls for brushing with olive oil. Not pre-baking. I was looking at ingredients, not directions.
 
I had a very long shopping trip last month (I shop once every 4-6 weeks). Unable to get Velveeta shells & cheese, I bought a 3-pack of the cheese packets, and a generic box of pasta shells. Ya know what? I will always do it this way now.
. It’s cheaper
. I’m not committed to one pasta
. It uses less room in my cabinet

hmm had coffee got my day started, cleaned the main coop.. broke down bought a nifty new black and decker shop Vac we have all wood floors I clean cat boxes twice a day caregiver vacuums all the hair in the house about twice a week darn thing has a funky bag... pulled gobs and gobs and gobs of ick bag is empty few days we will take the trek 25 miles or so into walmart find bags I hope .. eating last night cold pizza now
 
I went out today and got the ingredients for NFC's blueberry cheesecake bars... Gonna give it a whirl... Last six months or so, I've been too tired to do much in the kitchen... Now I can get back at it. As for the easy melt cheese discussion, I prefer to make my own... I'd love to make it from cheese I've made, but still doing small batches..
