You’re right. My recipe calls for brushing with olive oil. Not pre-baking. I was looking at ingredients, not directions.It is not necessary.
You pre bake the dough and then wrap it up and freeze for later. One thing it will do is keep the sauce from baking into the dough. You can do the same thing by brushing some olive oil onto the dough before putting the sauce on.

Thanks for the tip!I had a very long shopping trip last month (I shop once every 4-6 weeks). Unable to get Velveeta shells & cheese, I bought a 3-pack of the cheese packets, and a generic box of pasta shells. Ya know what? I will always do it this way now.
