Any Home Bakers Here?

The answer is the same-- the grain has to have gluten in it so you have to check to see what the grains are.

Are you worried about the grain having toxins in it? That is not a baking question.

I am pretty sure any whole wheat and barley including those that I buy in 55 lb bags to feed chickens have gluten in them. Question is have anyone tried to mill them to use for baking and the safety of that.

Very nicely cut squares.

Would have been better if I had some bar moulds... Its very crumbly to cut. Maybe if I make it again next christmas.
Not bad for a first attempt. I've never made fudge or anything like this.

I feel so lucky having lovely people online and in life that really knows how to bake and cook then share their talents.
Thank you to you all here!

A local lady who should be considered elderly but she looks 30 years younger and is always active gave me her mothers and grandmothers recipe for their version a family hotpot.

I'm cooking this in the oven right now in a two litre casserole.

1 leak chopped into about two inches thick
1 small onion.
1 large carrot, chopped thickly
2 medium potatoes quartered
4 lamb chops, these are not considered lamb because these sheep live free range and are not culled until 18 months

I put coconut oil in the bottom of my dish

Place half the veg and onions at the bottom of the dish, add chops then place remaining vegetables on top.
I mixed salt and pepper into a bowl, some like to use a stock cube. Pour in hot water and mix to taste before adding to your casserole mix. Put in oven and cook for at least an hour.

This special lady leaves her to cook very slowly in a pan inside the oven, but I can't wait that long.

I also added turmeric coconut oil and cayenne pepper, this helps with my conditions plus tastes super yummy.

I would stick with grains for human consumption since we really do not know what they put in chicken feed. Quality standards are lower for animals and labeling rules are not as strict.

I use hard red and white wheat ground to flour at up to a 50% ration in bread making.

Barley is low in gluten and if a lot is used, you have to add gluten

We are on another lockdown here. So trying to keep busy and I feel blessed because I can at least come here for a little company.
Many people do not have the luxury of being online, it must be agony for them especially if they have disabilities and are a way from their families. Every time you call to make any kind of order they expect you to be online.
