Any Home Bakers Here?

Not baking, but we made silly putty today at the daycare! A parent gave me the recipe almost a month ago and I keep forgetting to try it. They are all having a blast!

Silly putty

Food coloring
Water
8oz glue
1tsp borax

Empty 8oz of elmers glue into a large mixing bowl. Fill the empty glue bottle with water, put the lid on and shake well. Empty water into the bowl and stire together with the glue.

Add a few drops of food coloring (my son did it, so we have lots of food coloring in ours!).

Measure 1/2 cup or warm water into a cup and add 1tsp borax powder to the water. Stir together. Slowly add the borax/water solution as you stir the glue mixture. You can add all or just a bit depending on how stringy you want it. Let the kids have a blast with it!

When done, put in a ziplock bag to store.

*I was going to make more play dough, but glad I did this! Is different and the kids are having so much fun!
I made stuff like that when the daughters were little.

Also when I was Cubbies director for AWANA. It is really fun to make!

My son playing with his silly putty. I thought any parents or grandparents on here might like this.

That sounds cool! Does the borax keep the color from bleeding out on your hands?

My sons hand have a bluish tint to them, but he mixed it all together so I think he got some of the food coloring that was on the side of the bowl on his hands. The daycare kids and I don't have any food coloring on our hands.

I will say, although the recipe says it's silly putty, it is not the texture of silly putty. The kids love it though. Next time we might do it where we play with it at different stages when adding the borax/water mixture.

That is pretty cool @Alice28
We like to make play dough here and we make hearts and chickens and different things them put them in the dehydrator for "Mommy Gifts"

My daughter did Bread dough roses once that was super cool and it was like glue and a slice of white bread.

Oh cool! We make lots of play dough too. I have to make new dough every few months (more durning cold season

), I should do more of putting shapes in the oven for the kids to take home! That's a good idea! We do that around holidays, but I should do it more just as a fun thing to do here and there.

The day care woman that took care of my kids made play dough one winter. The kids cut shapes out with cookie cutters, punched holes at the top. Then they baked and painted them. Those were our parent gifts for Christmas that year. I still have mine and that gift was from a long time ago. Nice little keepsake.

Yah, we have done salt dough ornaments, pretty much the same thing, and cinnamon ornaments for Christmas time gifts. I should let them make just whatever they want and bake it one day. I'm sure they would love that!

I bet they would
I have lots of fun things like that from when my kids were little. I even have a mothers day coupon book from my oldest who swears the sweeping and dishes coupons are no longer valid but she will make good on all the hugs.

I have a salt dough heart from my youngest, now 16 and it has his hand prints on it. still hangs on the wall.
