I’ve poured hooch off if it really seemed gross but usually just stir it in. I feed mine half and half water and flour. I’m putting together a couple Champlain loaves tonight and tomorrow I’m going to make pizza dough.

It’s been forever since I’ve made regular biscuits. I forgot how simple, yet good, they are.

Good morning, everyone.

Cooking the turkey I took while hunting in April today. Also making giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, and radish asparagus salad.

No, it’s not thanksgiving. The event is my friend from Japan finally got to our house yesterday. We are giving her an American meal to celebrate.

Anyone on here know much about sourdough starters? I’m trying to determine if this is hooch or mold on the top and if I should save the starter or not.

It doesn’t look very pretty, does it, hah.

It is fine!
You do need to replenish it more often though.

I fed it this morning and it looks so much happier now. I’m going to feed it tomorrow morning as well to help keep it perky.

@ronott1 How often do you think I should feed it? I’m still planning on keeping it in the fridge, I wouldn’t be able to feed it as often as needed if it were on the counter. Also, how should it be stored? As of now I have a dish towel over its top.

Once a week works well.

A jaw with an expansion top works best-- it lets the air out but not in. You can also use a jar with a pickle pipe lid.
