Any Home Bakers Here?

Thanks for the recipe, Penny. Does it perform the same as the puff pastry you can buy at the grocery store? I've always hated having to go buy it whenever I need some, but have never tried making it myself (not sure why I haven't).

I have not tried it had planned on pizza tonight and wanted to wait until I was home a given day to try.. get BF to get me sticks of butter tomorrow I will give it a go and see then let you all know

Pizza is out of the oven!

The bag of dough is now:

Yum!!
Looking at Penny's chili & Ron's pizza is making me hungry! They both look delicious.
They do!
Here's another pic I had stored up. These are the baguettes I made for the French onion soup that me and my son made recently. The baguettes turned out a little bigger and fatter than I was expecting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - lol.

Wish I could make bread like that...some day.
Beautiful!
Yeah, I think most of us are going through egg withdrawal right now.
I haven’t had to buy yet, so thankful!
View attachment 1222268 Made florentines today. The recipe is from the British Baking Show website. I used different nuts than the recipe, and dry roasted them in a pan before crushing and adding to the batter.
Yum!
Today is chicken soup with German Pretzels!

This is a picture of them resting for 20 minutes with a fan on them. They are in the oven now after getting dunked in boiling baking soda water. I might get brave and use lye next time if I can find the right kind

What does the lye do? Very pretty!
my pizza for tonight needs more practice working the dough outView attachment 1223185
I use parchment paper and a little shortening under mine and a little flour when pushing it out to the edges or I have a mess.

Yum!!

The lye or baking soda makes them brown more and add the crunchy crust to the pretzel. I missed one yesterday and it does not look like it is suppose to

Got ambitious and did homemade caramel rolls.

Four Tortillas : makes 10 six inch tortillas.

Ingredients:

2.5 cups of unbleached all purpose flour.
1 tsp salt
6 tablespoons vegetable shortening at room temp
3/4 cup of warm water.

Directions:

1 - put flour and salt in a medium bowl and stir to combine.
2 - work shortening into the flour until well blended. Add the water and work all in to a ball. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead til smooth.
3- Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and shape into rounds. Cover these loosely with plastic wrap and let sit at room temp for 30 - 60 minutes.
4 - roll each ball into a 6 inch circle of about 1/8" thick.

I cooked them in my new International Chef ( pizelle, etc waffle type iron), but they just need to be "dry fried" - brush pan with vegetable oil, cook on med-high to high til done.

We used left over ham with shredded cheddar cheese to fill, reheat just long enough to melt the cheese and loaded them up with black olive/sour cream/salsa and guacamole topping . Next time will be prepared with better fillings on hand :).

@Bills vs Beaks

:frow Your breads look quite "professional" :clap.
:bow thank you :p

That is so pretty!

Wish I could make bread like that...some day.
I encourage you to try now! It really wasnt as hard as I thought it would be :p you just need some strong wrists for kneading and everything else is fine. the toughest part is braiding. And Im a guy, I have never braided anything before in my life :lau

I made my first homemade Tortillas and Quesadillas last night, so easy and good.
No way! I made those last night too!! I got a tortilla press for christmas (talk about your family giving you a hint ) and Ive been trying different recipes. Ill gives yours a try next :D
