Okra is disgusting. Have y’all ever heard of filé? It’s a powdered leaf that grows down here that’s used to thicken gumbo. It’s an extremely fine line, though- if you put too much, the gumbo gets stringy

They were cooked, though. Tasted like not-quite-done pinto beans. Kinda. With a kick of peanut.

I normally use pinto beans.

Absolutely use pinto beans or I’ve used pink beans with great results! I’ve never figured out how on earth kidney beans ever made it into chili!

I think pintos are about as cheap as you can get, at least here. I don’t know, maybe it’s regional. My neighbor is from the east coast and she uses kidneys. But her chili is very mild and almost sweet, very weird to me.
