Any ideas for recovering energy after spell with bad heart?

Not even s**???????????!!!!!!!!!!!! (it can be a stimulant and exercise!)

My father's old doctor told him he can't because he already had quad bypass and he is doing fine but the "fun" was going out of his marriage until his new doctor told him Go and have fun! Better than working! LOL!

So that would be another good "doctor's advise"!

Now hug your wife and tell her you love her every minute!

WHAT??? like THAT'S POSSIBLE!

I did get out of the house for a few minutes this afternoon. I walked "slooowly" down to the barn and checked on the stock. My neighbor had heard about the heart attack and walked up and talked a bit when he saw me outside. Wasn't outside but about 10 minutes, but it sure felt good. Wore me out though.

It's a step... maybe a baby step, but still a step!

yipee!

In October 2004 I had a massive heart attack. The damage was significant and I was released after a week to prepare for a transplant (for those who understand, my ejection fraction was under 10%). I was told to go home and do as much walking as I could. I live alone and am single, so about all I did was walk once an hour for as far as I could every waking hour. When I went in for the transplant evaluation in December, based upon my hearts recovery (ef up to 35%), it was decided to try by pass instead. That Christmas it was a quad by pass. The recovery was included more walking -treadmill and just walking around home.

During card rehab I complained that everyone else in the center was able to run and I could only manage about 30 seconds before I had to drop back to a walking pace. The tech said something really important "well, how much did you run before the surgery?" I replied well, not for many years and she said well why do you think you should be running now? Her point was to manage expectations. To this day I still can't run, but I heat with wood, cut, split, and stack 10 cords, shovel my own drive and basically have no restrictions. The thing is it might take me a week to split the wood, but eventually I get it done. I get tired then take a break for 10-15 minutes then have back at it. I still live alone, maintain a 1000 sq foot garden, run herd on 60 chickens in four separate coops, chop wood, have built two barns alone, and take care of myself (with meds too). The key is that I also manage my expectations and work within my physical limits of energy level. There are few things that I can't get done, it just takes longer if it's real physical.

Attitude is key (along with whatever meds supplements you take). Don't think you can't do things just because it takes you longer than it used to. Walk, walk, and walk some more. Put benches all over the yard and just walk from bench to bench to start if you have to, but walk. I set the goal to walk one or two miles everyday. Believe me in the beginning it was all day to get one mile, but every week it was faster and less time. The best thing to do is to supercharge a positive attitude and get moving as much you can and build from there. No one nor no medicine or supplement can do it for you. Only you can -and you will!

AFter my Dad got his bypass, he has to take baby steps and for a good while, he has to be the back seat passenger while Mom drove around town. He hated that because she was a lead foot LOL!

Once he felt better, he took small walks, then each month, increased about half a mile until he can walk three miles or bike for ten miles. During winter, it is rough for him so he ended up going to the gym to continue to stay active and after that, he would go to sister's house and do some renovation on her bathroom.....it was three LONG months off and on doing it. He did say that he doesn't do that as fast as he used to. Sis said take your time getting done and the bathroom is now 70 percent done. It was a mess but be thankful that his grandson helps him out.

Just take one day at a time and by spring you should be OK to do things like you used to. Just take care of yourself!

I had my first heart attack in 1985. Didn't know what it was other than I was feeling horrible for 24 hrs. It happened on the plane to a poultry show in Columbus, but I just thought it was something "normal". I didn't know at that time that if my jaw hurts I need to see a doc right away. They found that I had a heart attack and lost one of the arteries three weeks later when I had a routine EKG. Three years ago I had a similar feeling so I went to the doctor and ended up in the hospital having a bypass a couple days later. They could only do two of the four arteries because of risk verses benefits. Even with just two arteries replaced I felt so much better. The surgeon said he gave me two "turbocharged" arteries. hahaha I guess that is because he knows I race cars.

I don't know what you should do other than pay close attention to how you feel and do what you think you need to do to survive. The one thing I will pass on is something they don't always tell you about when you have heart problems. For a whole year after I found out that I had coronary heart disease in 1985 I went around with a lot of rage. I was pretty much a jerk most of the time. After a whole year of this (guys don't like to see doctors) I decided to talk to my GP doc about it at a regular visit. He told me that this is a normal reaction by some people when they find out that they are not indestructible and have had the first wake up call that we are not immortal. Rage takes a lot of energy, so keep that in mind. Once I found out what was going on it was like throwing a switch. I just started to accept the fact that I was on the downside of the hill, but it was not a death sentence by any means. I lead a very active life. Not too many 72 year olds racing fast cars. lol

Pay attention to your mind and body, excercise as much as you can when you are able, keep stress to a minimum if that is possible. Maybe some prescription drugs of the relaxing nature may be in order, but I'm not a doctor.

Take care,

Walt

Thanks everybody.

Been a rough day to day. First the back door FELL OFF THE HOUSE! No, I ain't kidding, I didn't even think it was possible. We have a sliding glass patio door, and it's been messed up for a year or so, hanging up, jumping the tracks, etc.. My wife went to open it this morning just after I got up. She was going to let my son out to go feed for me and the darn thing hung. She jerked it a couple of times and I heard a loud "pop" and she started hollering.. the darn thing fell plumb off. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. (Laughter finally won out, which did not improve her mood

) Anyway, I had to call my neighbor and a friend of mine to go get my trailer, drive to Lowes and pick up a new door. I had to send my wife to borrow the money to do it from another friend until I get paid next week. After they finally get the old door frame out and get the new door unloaded across a yard that is basicly 6" of mud right now. guess what? It didn't fit.

It was 6" larger than the old one.

They finally got the opening cut out and got it installed, thank God, but it was so stressful just watching them struggle with it and not being able to do anything to help. I feel about as useful as a tuning knob on a pumpkin. The little moving around I had to do wiped me out. I will be SO glad when I get to feeling better.

Found out that there were alot of problems at work Friday night while I was out sick, things that only I can straighten out. My pay was half of what I expected, and the heaters are messed up.

all in all I think I'll just go to bed and sleep until about March.

Oh well, tomorrow's another day...

MFB,
I'm sure your friends were happy that they could help you out.

You'l feel better soon. Wish I could speed it up.

If I was closer I wouldn't hesitate to help. Course the door would be upside down and backwards with gaps big enough for cats to get through, but the chewing gum would hold.

Imp- builds houses with bubblicious.
