Anyone able to help? Second opinion on Clyndamicin dosage!

Hi all,

I’ve just taken my male Pekin to the vets to get some antibiotics as he has bumblefoot (again). He was weighed at 2.7kg and the vet has prescribed him clindamycin 88mg. She’s put it down for him to have a tablet and a half twice a day, morning and night. Does this seem an excessive amount? When my female had bumblefoot, a different vet gave instruction for half a tablet twice a day. Going my what she’s instructed that means he would be having over 240mg a day??? Surely that can’t be right? Any wisdom as usual would be appreciated and won’t be giving him the dosage until I get a second opinion, thank you!

besides the antibiotics, what are you doing for the foot, did the vet cut it open , clean it out, use antibiotic ointment , and bandage it? and you are keeping him out of water?

Hiya I’m pretty much a novice with bumblefoot now (I hope). He’s having epsom salt baths, colloidal silver and vetericyn hydrogel on his foot which is wrapped with gauze and self adhesive bandaging the vet said she’s seen much worse and that the antibiotic should hopefully work as it did work previously. Thanks for tagging the others!

Clindamycin dosage may vary with what is being treated. My 9 pound cat got 25mg twice a day Here is some reading about using dosage from 50-100 mg 2-3 times a day for a chicken, and then others that recommend higher dosage:

Would you say her dosage would be correct then? Or should I just do one tablet in the morning then evening? Thank you for the links
