Anyone else not doing Christmas this year?

Holidays are just another day around here! Hope you have a nice one.We will be happy to all be home together for a few days. To me the winter holidays are a helpful way to get through the cold grey days of winter. I am not into spending tons and going to religious celebrations,but I do enjoy the lights and decorations.

Chillax... I'm sure that really involves RElax, but for some reason I immediate thought of ExLax brownies... maybe I've just got "Things to do to Cranky People" on the brain...

I could see if the Pope was in town and on Christmas Day someone said Happy Hanukkah... I mean, HELLO obviously NOT Jewish... obviously... and being VERY religious in their faith, very ... Orthodox, is that the word I want? Well I could see him getting a little weird... at the least him giving a "Are you kidding me?" look... but even in a really, supremely obvious case like that... even if it was said all smarty pants like... I don't see the pope, the uber Christian (according to millions anyways) throwing a FIT about it... just wouldn't be in character... Christ wasn't the smiting type you know? Seems kinda... oxymoronic? For peeps to get SO bent out of shape over it.

Christmas will be different this year. I won't get to see my extended family, one side chose to delay it until Feb. The other chose a date in which my family can't meet with them. So I am a bit bummed about not seeing my grandparents or my aunts and uncles and cousins. On a happy note my BILs will be home from the army, one is stationed in Hi and another in CA so it will be great to see them. But of course one of them is kicking up the drama and so because of that I am dreading the reunion as well. Without drama I would be very happy and looking forward to the holidays. Hoping we can stay DRAMA FREE with both of them staying with us!!!


I have always disliked the commercialism of Christmas and find it very annoying that the stores are having their cake and eating it too. On one hand they want our $ so they advertise before Halloween and on the other hand they can not even give us good wishes for the holidays. Within this part of the holiday I dislike. I dislike my children wanting every toy known to man and even without tv they still get the "it" thing into their heads from friends at school. The days of keeping my kids in the dark are over. But that being said I try very hard to get the kids what they are hoping for but keeping it within the what I have in my wallet. The good news is my Daughter only wants raindeer antlers and the boys will be happy with the toy I have found for them (even with their list a mile long).

I raised my son as a single mother, and he was always aware that things were tight. His Christmas list used to include things like a penguin, airplane, spider monkey, camel, belt buckle spun from gold that fairies leave, etc. It used to always make me laugh, so as a 21 year old young man, he still does it.

Well, I have to say that yes, we are doing Christmas this year, but not like I've ever done it before.

I'm giving baked goods, handmade jewelry and homemade soaps, bath salts, hand-dipped incense, soy candles, and scented wax tarts (and gift baskets with various combinations thereof) to my friends and family. When I put together gifts like that, I think more about the person and the things that are pleasant to THEM. It's a lot of fun & I am way behind in getting stuff done, so I need to get busy for sure! Probably will do a lot of baking that last week before Christmas--baked goods are easier to give to the men in my life rather than a gift basket with bath salts and homemade soap, ya know?

We're not doing a big dinner or anything like that. We are going to find a charity that provides toys and warm clothes to foster kids and donate a toy & a coat. Our church does a nice service for Christmas Eve & we will be going to that.

During the day on Christmas, I have to work anyway. I work from home, so at least I do not have to go anywhere. At some point that evening, though, I'm sure we'll head over to see our grandson.

We are not putting up a tree, though we do have lights on the house (we never take them down--we're total rednecks). The only reason we even have lights is for the grandkid. He gets a kick out of it, and we get a kick out of him getting a kick out of it.

I dont like the term Xmas but I'm fine with hearing actual holiday names or just plain old "happy holidays".
