Anyone ever get a Notice of Correction from the Dept of Ag??

To kinda put things in perspective:

To ship eggs/chicks legally (export to another state) you need the NPIP forms to ship with your eggs/chicks and to ship to the state dept of each state. On those forms you must check what your birds have been tested for, and who they were shipped to. That's how they knew you received eggs. The person who shipped the eggs to you must have supplied your state with the form, but neglected to mark the correct boxes. If they have the forms they must be NPIP and if they are NPIP then their flock has been tested a minimum of AI and pullorum typhoid free.

VA requires that the birds also be tested clean for MG within 30 days of being imported into VA. That test is an actual blood test (draw a vial of blood) not just a prick under the wing. Drawing blood from a chicken is difficult and can be dangerous for the birds. That is why most small breeders will not ship to VA. It is crazy to submit the birds to that kind of testing unnecessarily. Larger hatcheries probably have a state vet regularly (monthly) anyway. SD on the other hand requires you to test within 10 days of shipping which is virtually impossible. It takes longer than that to get the test results.......

As far as ordering eggs it is a shared responsibility. The seller is the exporter and the buyer is the importer (I know sounds nuts to call it importing state to state but that's what it is). It usually does not come down to that, someone must have had too much time on their hands the day they sent you the warning

.......

Most states come out and test for free. If you want to be certified though there is usually a small fee.

It costs 89.00 annually to be NPIP certified in the state of Idaho. I WISH it was free! Free is nice. Big fan of free.

Oh, and I've never received any NPIP paperwork in the boxes of eggs that I've received. I assume that if someone says they are NPIP certified then it's true. There isn't any real time way to verify that I know of.

NPIP certification varies from state to state.... here in MN its for PT only. I would have to get additional testing at my own expense to get certified as AI free too. The state has alot of PT testors who you can get to do your birds at like $0.50 each usually. Some charge mileage fees and stuff too. OR you can pay to go through the course and become a certified testor yourself. Then the state wil provide free antigen for the testors. AI is different though... you have to get a private vet, pay a farm call, and pay fees for each test they perform. Gets mighty spendy...

On the MS/MG test, I have another fun lil fact.... The PT testors are usually trained and have the vials/paperwork to be able to do these. However.... if you send those lil vials in the mail and they get chilled at all, you have a good chance of them coming up false positive. I know this because we used to raise heritage turkeys.... We finally sold them all due to all the hassles with blood testing them.

Not required to send them to the buyer as long as they have your npip number but it is required to send them to the each state.

Oops almost forgot, in Ohio the prices are according to the number of chickens you have. I think less than 100 is $35.00 and more than 100 is $50 (that is to get certified). For that fee you also get a membership to OPA.

Wow, what a pain! Our testers do the AI swabs as well as the PT test all at the same time..... I believe he told me I would need to get a vet to do the MG test though.

Or, at my farm they will come up positive because I vaccinate for MG.

My favorite fact about VA is that they will not let you ship without the MG test, but the State is not an MG free state........... WTH????

I vaccinate with a killed vaccine for MG (Fort Dodge MG-BAC) would that also produce a positive?

( I also use a killed vaccine of Poulvac Coryza by Fort Dodge)

You all who live in VA and SD need to work on your state to lighten up on the poultry laws a little (can't stop the flying birds or the creepy mice that carry these diseases...)
