oh yeah, also...if you're just doing pictures on the top of the cake, there is something called the "FBCT" or "Frozen ButterCream Transfer" which I do all the time. Here's what you do:
Print a simple picture of what you want on your cake (flip the image if it has to go a certain way cause it'll be backwards).
Lay wax paper or parchment paper over the picture.
Trace the outlines of the picture with frosting from a round tip, maybe a size 3 tip.
Place it flat in the freezer for about 1/2 hour
Fill in the spaces with the color needed. You can just use a size 5+ tip to fill in the spaces. Make sure the frosting is pretty thick and flat so it won't break later.
freeze again another hour
Flip it over onto your cake and peel back the parchment paper.
You should have a mirror image of the original print out.
