Anyone noticing an unusually poor November egg production?

Stewames,

Your post makes the most sense, along with the age of the flock. I have 5 hens that are 19 months old, they barley slowed down last fall/winter. 3 are EE's and 2 are RIR. My EE's have not laid in over 3 weeks, the RIR are giving me 2 eggs a week!!! Good thing I adore my chickens or they would be stew.

I will try to increase their protein. Not sure if I want to try the cat kibble, as the crap they put in it can't be good. I may try the solar lights another poster mentioned, if I can find them cheap. My CSA has also been out of eggs and we usually eat 4 a day. Oh well, say la vie.

I am quite aggrivated! Since September my birds have slowed laying to the point I am not getting ANY eggs from my silkies, and I have 4 hens of laying age. In fact, 3 hens are 2 years old and 1 was supposed to start laying in September and hasn't? Not 1 egg since the last week. I noticed molting in October, but that has ended... and still... nothing.

I have 3 Japanese bantams of laying age and I have only gotten 2 eggs in the last week from them?

What is going on?! 7 laying birds and 2 eggs from all them since September? My husband is at wits end, and want to get rid of all of them and get standard size birds, though I have been breeding silkies since 2008, and I even won my first blue ribbon with my roo this year.

What do I do? Maybe an issue with weather? Feed? whats up? I highly doubt they stop laying altogether at the age of 2. I had a 2 year old bird that laid find up until she was eaten by a fox last spring... so why so many problems with these girls?

HELP!

I have 6 chickens - getting 4-6 eggs a day still. I feed Southern States Super Breeder right now. They are out free range during the day. I don't know if any of this has anything to do with it.

Thanks for this! I like this explanation, and it makes me a little less frustrated with our ladies. We have been down to an average of 0.25 eggs per day from 4 healthy hens since September. Partially due to a couple of late summer molts, but MUCH lower than I expected for our 2 year old hens.

Time to add to the flock!

Four hens - not one egg since early October. They at least laid one every other day last year. I'll check out the link posted above. And I've sent this it to my chicken neighbors here in West Oakland. Thanks for the thread.

My egg production was slowly reducing as my birds all decided to molt at one time then it stopped altogether. Looks like all the feathers are back except for one so I am hoping to see some laying again.

I did not notice any reduction in Nov. My 26 laying chickens are producing from 13 to 20 eggs per day.

We have 13 hens and were averaging 6-8 eggs per day. Now that it is getting cold out we hooked up their red brooder light and egg production went crazy. 12 and 13 eggs per day. We don't have it on a timer though and it was on all night. When I would go check on them they didn't seem to be bedded down very well, some were standing on the roosts while others were trying to sleep. I don't think the lamp really made it much warmer so I didn't turn it on tonight. I wonder how many eggs we'll get tomorrow. We had thirteen today but at least one was still from yesterday that I forgot to bring in. Don't know which egg though!

I may turn it back on though...I need eggs to make these darned egg Christmas tree decorations!!!

Well, Nov. is finished and my Dec. didn't start any better! NO eggs yesterday or today... Two of my girls are just stating to get their pretty new feathers, two are now 'blowing' feathers and my Barred Rock who has been pumping out eggs is now losing her feathers...The FBCM girls are starting to get color in their combs and the little Ameraucanas still aren't showing any pink.. I HAD to purchased those things they advertise as EGGS from the groc. store and they are nasty.... I won't do it again.. I might be out robbing someones hen house in the middle of the day ---I NEED eggs... I am only asking for 1 or 2 a day-- Chirstmas baking is not gonna be the same...
