Anyone Setting eggs on 4/10/12??? Want to hatch with me?

I tried to candle today i can see some spidery veins and i thankyou because i did not know what to do, and it made me have a bit of hope, and ill try candling them again in a few days time as its my first hatch.

Are they white or brown eggs? You should see a spider at 4 days (red spot with veins coming out from it) it would be more difficult to see with a brown egg. Don't start worrying yet, give it a few more days.

thanks for replying they are brown eggs and today i can see a few spidery veins, you put my mind at ease as its my first hatch, see how it goes.

I'll join you, too. I set 15 German New Hampshires (

) on April 9th at about 6 pm, so I shouldn't be too far off. I'm using a Hovabator Genesis 1588, and I like a drier hatch - 30-35% for incubation and 55-60% for lockdown. I just finished up with the Easter Hatch and have 19 little fuzzies in the brooder. I can't wait for some of these GNHs to join them.

That is almost EXACTLY when I put mine in, April 9th around 6 PM :D

Can I join? I set 42 eggs in my hovabator 1602n still air, on the 10th. 12 of those are ameracauna/ee's, the rest are australorp mixes of some sort, maybe some pure australorps in there, and maybe some black sex links. I'm excited! I already have a brooder full of babies, but a few more won't hurt anything ;) by the time these hatch, they will be sold or moved outside, anyway. Chicken math is WAY to easy for me.....haha

Can I get in on this hatch too? I set eggs yesterday (the 11th) but I just realized as I was typing that I didn't count how many I squeezed in there. So I'll have to update you on that. I'm hatching Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from my own flock in a Brinsea 20.

This is my third hatch this year and the previous two have gone terribly. 7 out of 32 on the first go and 5 out of 31 on the second. Both times I had almost 100% fertility, and most made it to lockdown, but then only the handful hatched. Since they're hatching on schedule on day 21, I don't think it's the temperature, so it must be the humidity? Last year I had a lot of success with dry hatches, so that's what I did again this year, but I think I'm going to go back to the instruction manual and try this one with the advised 45% humidity days 1-18 and then up to 65% for lockdown and see if that does the trick.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm not sure why I'm having such a tough time this year!

Welcome!! I have been thinking of getting some Austalorps, I have heard such wonderful things about the breed. Especially there ability to lay in the cold dark days of winter, what has been your experience?

As a response to the ISA browns post: I have both of these breeds. Which way did you cross? Red rooster to white hens or White rooster to red hens? Maybe both ways would prove interesting.

I apologize I was told that was what was what the cross was, and I still find references to that cross online, but the more I research the more I find that it's actually a Rhode Island Red (female) and Rhode Island White (male) cross instead. I actually bought these eggs from someone with ISA Browns. I will edit my post.

Yup, I found the same info. I have some Red Stars from McMurray that lay like crazy but they eat like crazy too. I was thinking maybe the ISA browns would be more like them. The Pearls lay jumbo eggs and eat less. Carcass is too thin to do anything useful with tho'.

May I join also?

Set on 4/2 DUE 4/30 and after candling I now have:

4 Turkey
6 Call Duck

Set today 4/12 DUE 5/3

6 Porcelain D'Uccle
15 Golden Cuckoo Maran

So, I guess I have some due before some of you and some due after. Good luck to everyone!
