Anyone Setting eggs on 4/10/12??? Want to hatch with me?

Ok..... I am have horrible problems with my thermometers!! I just went and bought a new digital with a probe that is made for reptiles and such. I checked the temp in an ice water slush mixture and it said 32.4. Do you guys think that this is accurate? I have done this method in the past with mercury thermometers and it seemed to work :idunno  any advice? If this thermometer is correct I think that my eggs have been running at about 95 :he  Are my eggs dead, or just slower to develop? I would guess that to cool is better than to hot if anything...

They are probably fine. It might delay your hatch by a few days, though. I always have issues with thermometers, I just dont trust them! Good luck, im hoping you can find something that works out well. :)

I've never heard of a successful twin hatch. Good luck.
x2 I think that would be a very rare outcome.

My last hatch, I kept my temperatures a bit lower, 99.2-99.6 or so, because my chicks always hatch on day 20, so I figured I was too hot. They still hatched mostly on day 20, but I had a couple feet/leg issues. I'm a bit paranoid that the temps might have been the reason, so I'm trying to keep it higher this time, 99.6-100.1 or so. We'll see.

So far, so good. Today is day 4 for me.

My Bantam Mille Fleur d'Uccle hen decided to go broody on the 10th, on 18 eggs! I candled them today and removed two, at least 9 have veins and an embryo, but I won't do a major cull until day 7. I like to give them time to germinate, since they are laid days after each other and such. I have some pictures of the candling, but you can barely see much in them, guess I'll have to find a better camera.
I actually already had a hen hatch out 6 chicks, with more still hatching, just a few days ago. She hatched out about one a day and now my Silkie is the proud mother of male and female Silkie twins, and three females one male Sultans, I think. They are all about a week or so old.

Is it day 5 already? Anyone going to be candling their eggs for the first time today? I stole a quick peak at an egg last night and know that at least one of my eggs is fertile and developing. I could have sworn I saw the veins starting to show. Hoping the rest of my eggs follow suit!!

First, let me jump in and say I'm here for the hatch!

I set a dozen of my mutts' eggs on the evening of the 9th, so the 10th would officially be day one. I will be doing my first candling this afternoon, so I will see how it's going.

This is my third attempt with my homemade incubator - the first two were flops, but I think I've got the temp/humidity thing worked out better now. I now have 3 thermometers, two with a hygrometer, and a third just because.

day 7 after candling everthings well 3 normal eggs and one humongus egg which definitely has 2 chickies in there! i just cant wait do you think the twin chickies are going to make it, any one else had success with twins?

There are reports of several successful ones, and at least one you-tube video. Here's one related link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/401968/can-a-double-yolked-egg-hatch

I am about to do the same thing, and it might be interesting to do with crossed fingers.

But, I'm gonna try.

Good luck on the candling! I also have 3 thermometers in my incubator. And of course they all read different.
