Anyone with Pitties?

My mothers pit bull(the one i posted) absolutely LOVES other dogs and just wnats to play with them as soon as he sees em, he was really super good with the pup i had too. a total goober. Even her 2 pits she had in the past were total love bugs with other dogs. I think it's more about bad breeding than just "something typical of the breed"

Now her Dobe/lab/mutt mix HATES other dogs & i have had plenty of mutts that were good with other dogs

Meeeeee!! Me me me me me, I LOVE Pits! I used to breed Blue ones with Blue eyes. My kennel was called "Blue Ice Kennel" of MD. All those pics are so cute, now I want a new puppy!

Way too much cuteness! Now I am down to one old girly, "Chaser". She is 10 yrs. old, white w/blue eyes. She was my very first, so sweet, an ambassador for the breed. I will post lots of pics as soon as I can. Her BFF is our female GSD. They love each other. Chaser loves puppies.

I adore seeing a well loved dog!

I see way to many pits around town kept by idiot owners (careless and completely ignorant of the breed) either on MASSIVE chain collars and flaunted or chained in a yard.

There's one thats an accident waiting to happen. Big black pitty, unneutered male I believe. Kept on a chain in the yard 24/7/365. They have a kid to sticks things in his ears/face/nose/eyes. After a while ANY dog would get irritated and give a snap, since he's a pitbull it will only further fuel the bad-dog reputation. He seems pretty patient...but it's like a ticking time bomb

A combination of BAD ownership, and BAD parentship.
I bet even my laid-back, utterly please-you Weimaraner would give a growl or snap if agitated long enough. And he's pretty darn patient and loving of children. BUT, I wouldn't leave a young child alone with either of my dogs. Especially if they get bored enough to put things in their ears.

My girl reminds me a bit of Pits with her ears and stocky build

She's a Great Dane crossed with a Boxer though, I wonder if Boxer's are cousins of Pits? They're similar, yet completely different it seems.

We don't know what she's mixed with. I found her when she was about 6 months old at a plant nursery down in Miami. She was skinny and pitiful so I brought her home. She was spayed and vaccinated a couple of weeks later - she was our first dog together LOL (Our baby

) She is still to this day the best dog we have ever owned. We have another pit mix now but she is mixed with black lab and although she has the pit personality she looks like a lab. She has those see through you pitty eyes though!

I wanted to add that she was always so funny and had the best personality. At the end of her life (she was 14 in the above picture) she was pretty blind and deaf. We would let her out to do her business and she would bark at the trees because she thought there were people in her yard. She couldn't hear you when you tried to tell her it was no one... Sorry, it was just funny. It makes me smile just thinking about it....

Here's a pic of my DB and his brat of a child Brut. He's spoiled rotten, has his own recliner to sleep in, can't stand being outside longer than it takes him to do his business and he's very gentle with my mommas chihuahua's but give him a cat or squirrel and he'll chase it down. He has to be put on one of those heavy chains when he goes out even with a fenced in yard. He chased a squirrel one day and jumped the back fence right into the police officer neighbors yard, didn't take long for the dog catcher to show up that day, lol. He goes everywhere with my bro and you wouldn't dare enter his room without knocking and announcing yourself first. I think he looks like the Joker his smile is huge!

We have a 3 year old brindle boxer/pit mix. His name is Max. I am at work, otherwise I'd post a picture. I will post a picture of him when I get home.

We found him on Craigslist a year ago March. The owners told us they were moving and couldn't take him with them.

Well, for the 1st week, my husband had to roam the neighborhood because he would jump our 6 foot chainlink fence. I'm thinkin' that's the reason the owners wanted to rehome him.

We had the cops called on us because we were walking through yards trying to get him. So, after a couple of calls from people reporting we were "casing" their neighborhoods, the cop would just ask if we lost our dog again.

We had him neutered, and my DS worked on obedience training him for 4-H. We kept him on a long cable until about a month ago (he broke it). Thinking that the obedience training worked and he is a year older, we kept the gates shut and put him in his run if we were leaving. It was good for the 1st couple of weeks. Now we have to make sure he is not shut in his run because he will jump the 6 ft fence into the neighbors yard, rather than the 4 ft fence that would allow him more area in our yard to run around in.

Love the dog! He is a big baby who loves to ride in a car and stay outdoors. Hardly barks unless he sees a snake or gila monster. Loves his belly rubbed and going for walks. Loves horses and chasing cats and chickens. He does does have selective hearing so even if you call his name, he might ignore you (just like my kids). He is such a good dog, but we gotta find a way to keep him in our yard!

He loves people, especially kids. One time we found him sitting in the middle of 6 little kids, tongue hanging out, just basking in the attention. However, adults are wary of him and I'm afraid they will call animal control on him. We do have him licensed and microchipped just in case.

You can put electric fence wire around the top of your fence to keep him in. Its easy, fast and they usually only have to get zapped a couple times. I would actually put in two strands. One down on the fenct itself about 10 inches or so from the top of the fence and another at the very top. If you don't want to opt for this then you need to get him a kennel with a top. Those are really your only two options if you want to leave him outside by himself. Otherwise you can crate him when he's not with you supervised.

I think my DH does have some electric wire laying around. We were thinking about that.

We tried to put up an invisible fence but we have such a big back yard, we are on an acre, that we could only get it to shock around 1/2 of the fence.

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to see how much wire we have. The only problem I can see is that neighbors on both sides of us have dogs and we were afraid of them getting shocked.
