Apple Cider Vinegar

lol, I stated that I did that and Ive had no problems and it helps me....I do know of a friend that does and has given it for sometime, to her kids....her kids like to play in the rains dirty water, and use to get worms....? ....said that that has solved the problem.....

I havent not taken it, just read alot of things I researched on it and what she and her family have said.....but I do give it to my dogs and it seems to help with the flea problem they use to have and omg!!!! it has helped my boxer with his gas....for 2yrs he was bad, and we changed his food until we found the better of the foods....less gases but sometimes he was bad....started the DE and now no problems from him....

I guess to each his own, I like it for my flocks and my dogs....lol

DE is NOT an antibiotic, and has never been proven to have any effect on internal parasites.

DE is certainly not an antibiotic, but it could injure parasites in the GI tracts by cutting them open as it passes by where they are anchored on the intestinal wall. I can think of no other reason for the testimonies of intestinal worms being passed after administering DE that I have read. I do admit that I have only read two or three. By all accounts, it is not for infestation, but only for prevention.

Hi 2Tx,you sure did a good job but becareful
lifting.
I did about the same as you since DH is not able to do anything,
Recuperating from a mild Heart attack. But doing great this came as a total
shock. never had health issues.heavy smoker. ( but No more...)
Been home bound since Oct.8......
I had some old plastic picnic cloths and put them to good use
to cover my 4-5 months old Silikes and amerucanas.
and put the waters close to the heat lamps
Im wondering if ACV in the water also helps water from freezing.
anyone ??
gave some scratch to keep my feathered family warmer
with their Layena.and red hot pepper flakes and yesterday got2 eggs
Havent had an egg from this bunch in about 4 weeks with this cold snap
we have.

Thanks, so far they are keeping warm or I should say warmer if they had not been covered...and I feed them there reg. diet, but just before it gets dark...like at 4pm, I go out and feed them once again, but this time, day old bread, and oatmeal with milk thats been heated up on the stove...so I gave them a yummy meal thats real warm just before bed....so far so good...

I would like to know about the Vinegar also....I dont have elect. out there so I can keep my water from freezing!

The amount of ACV you would use would have zero effect on the freeze point of water. Try warm water two-three tiems a day to help them lay better. Also try adding Calf-manna as a treat/supplement.

Hi,
Vinagar, including ACV is an acid. ie. low PH Added to water it reduces the PH, and many bacteria do not like low PH environment . I use it frequently as one of those "good for everything" type things. Great for cleaning water dishes in the coop. Ever notice that smell when you change the water? ACV (just a little) in the water eliminates it for me. Also I add a few drops to the girls water to keep it fresh. Good for cleaning in the coop or in the home for that matter!.. Also for balancing the PH for soil and water used in the garden. And of course, cucumbers and onions in ACV and sugar....Yummm, I drink the liquid and all. I actually crave vinegar.. Vinegar on your fries anyone? Just like in Brittan.

(Better start selling vinegar hey??)

Our house is surrounded by horse farms here, and the fly problem is unbelievable. The first summer we were here I figured that was probably why the couple sold us the house and moved! Very determined little buggers. The flies ... not the couple.

Last summer was our first summer with birds on this property. We have 38, so I was ready for a coop full of flies, but got a tip here on another thread that has kept them pretty much at bay .... "Stall Dry". I buy it at Country Max, but I know TS has it too. Porbably sold anywhere they sell stuff for horses etc. I believe it's mostly clay and DE (too much snow to go out and see what else it has in it) I know it's safe for the birds to eat. It does absorb moisture which deters the fly population, but it also has the DE which grinds up their eggs! I even mix it with dirt, and sand to put into a kiddie pool I have set up in their coop for them to dust bathe in! First time ever with no mites!! We have a fairly large coop but I get a bag once a month or so and sprinkle it liberally everywhere.
Probably the DE alone would do the same thing ... not sure about soaking up moisture ... someone else may be able to speak to that. Possibly already did as I am rethinking the thread. I read so many it's hard to remember who said what, and where!

I also give the girls ACV, but it's for the health of their intestines. It's good for them and they LOVE it!

Up here in NY we're frozen in! Thank God my Dh has been dragging the fresh water down to the coop for me!

This isn't about ACV, or flies but .... I've also been giving my girls suet cakes (from the store), and beef suet from the butcher. It keeps them warm (much like corn/scratch) and the ones from the store have treats in them. I just read the labels to make sure I'm not giving them chemicals they don't need. It might be a great way to help your birds as we all struggle to keep our girls warm during this cold snap!!

Good luck!!
