What candlers do you guys use? I set eggs for the Easter hatch-a-long earlier.
*me* Ok, only 10 eggs. I can't keep any.
*voice* Oh-but don't you want to make it a nice dozen?
*me* Hm, ok.
*voice* But wait! 15 is a nice, solid number!
*me* I don't think I have that many
*voice* At least check!
*me* Oh-I do!
*me* *puts 15 eggs in the incubator*
*voice* Oh no! There's an emptry slot in the outer ring! That'll drive you crazy.
*me* Just one more...
*me* *stares at many more eggs than planned*
*voice* Think of all the fluff balls!
*me* Puts lid on incubator.

My incubator has built in candler...then I use my phone flashlight as backup.

I candled my doubles, day 14 they are still going. For how much longer? IDK. But I have others still going.

day 4. Candled eggs #1,5 and 10. saw nothing... I couldn't even really see the air sack on 5 and 10....... I saw it no problem on egg #1 but that was laid about 2 weeks before I set it, egg 5 was 8 days before and 10 was laid the day I set them...... is this normal?

going to try again Tue night on day 6 and hopefully see SOMETHING going on. may try more then.

2 weeks before setting is a long time, so I'm not completely surprised that there's no development. What candler do you use?

from people on this site that is the latest I was told to put them in and start collecting them so that is when I started in hopes that maybe some from that week would work. But none that I candled had anything going on that I could see but again I am only on day 4. One was laid 14 days before, one 8 days before and one the day I set them. The only one I saw the air sack in was the one laid 2 weeks before they were set..

I tried the one that is on my incubator and a 1500 lumens flashlight. the room was completely dark.

I have some chicken eggs coming! 4 BCM, 4 Ameracauna, 4 Olive Eggers and 4 Easter Eggers. They are being shipped today and of course, March in Canada it’s freezing here today and tomorrow! Hope they make it here. I’ll have to get a second incubator since the geese won’t be ready for another 10 days.

Day 19! Geese are looking good, duck is a bit questionable.

Day 15 for my double eggs they are still going, and my other eggs as well.

I candled again a couple nights ago...I think it was day 14ish...? Anyway, I got rid of the FBCM egg that showed clear from the first candling, and I had one Marans egg that had quit. So I am left with 4 FBCM eggs and 16 Cream Legbar eggs from my own flock.
The color on this pic is off a bit, I promise those eggs are blue and blue/green, lol.

They're not doubles. If one dies crack it, there will only be one embryo.
Around day 10-12 the embryo stretches out and appears to have two separate halves, because of it's orientation in the egg.
