APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

incubator question and I'm nervous.

I have a homemade incubator and am using the STC-1000 thermostat to control a 25 watt light bulb as heat source. I accidentally left the internal temperature probe under an egg after the rotation this morning about 8:30. When I got home about 5pm I checked on the eggs and the internal thermometer was reading 106 degrees.

I immediately opened the lid to cool it down and rotated the eggs as normal. Be it that this is day 7 what is the likelihood that they will not survive? What are the chances they will survive?

Thank you for your input.
Read this article! It is extremely helpful! http://www.brinsea.com/customerservice/poweroff.html

Good luck!

Welcome chick and thanks for the encouragment...yeah i leave them in til day 25. you never know..but im not too hopeful as the end the temp kept dropping..that is never a good sign with little bodies growing and heating up......almost certain they are dead as far as i have observed here or many anyway.should go up if anything
Anyway this guy is still working on a pip but heard one peep..if he can hatch as my humidity went down to 46 by morning. He may be shrink wrapped....then if he hatches dealing with a single chick have to buy him a buddy

My one chick hatched overnight. He still has some pieces of eggshell glued to his wing. I wrapped him in a warm wet paper towel and I'll try to remove them in about half an hour or so. He sure is feisty!

Edit: Got the shell off.

Don't you love that feeling when the last hope egg works out?

Happened to us last year...then we had to go buy him a couple buddies. lol

Day 22...one egg pipped in the wrong end last night...no sign of movement today and there are two other eggs this morning with external pips in the right end so I'm opting for the leave it and see option on the backwards chick.

Horrible long night...kept getting up to check the guy that hatched yesterday! More worried about him suffocating or something (yes, there are vent holes). Just my family was giving me flack for leaving him in there. "What, no food or water?!"!! He is less spastic today, but responds when we talk to him...it IS okay to leave him, right?

Definitely. Same thing happened with my very first hatch. Luckily I have more hatching in a few days so he wont be lonely for long.

I have to ask, what kind of chick is that in your user icon? It is adorable!!! I want to squish it. <3

yes, its okay.my chicks started hatching on a Saturday evening, everyone was out on Monday afternoon, and then everyone went to the brooder at the same time, together.

Quote: He's an EE...the ONE to hatch last year from shipped eggs we put under a super persistent broody. We aren't allowed roos, but risked keeping him into the winter to help our pullet integrate with the hens. One month ago we found a home for him with 19 hens. Good for him, but OMgosh I miss him! He had the best personality! We made a split decision to try to hatch out some of the eggs to hopefully get a couple girls. He grew into this:

No, he wasn't a house roo, he was just in for a quick visit. : )
