APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

The eggs are back in and back to temp, just a drop or two of spilt water left in incubator. I'll pick up another hygro tomorrow.

Well. My little turkey made it out. Yolk sac wasn't absorbed completely though, so I sat him & it, back in the bottom half of the egg and wrapped him back up in a new paper towel, so hopefully it will absorb more while he's resting. The other 4 r pipped! :)

Pretty disappointed in this latest batch. I started with 7 cayuga duck eggs and all 7 made it to lockdown, but only 3 survived. All of the rest died during hatching. They don't appear to have gotten shrink-wrapped, so I'm not sure what happened. They appeared well-formed and healthy, with egg-sacs absorbed (with the exception of the one who came out with an enormous egg-sac).

My last batch of 7 dozen chicks had a few that died during hatching too. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong. Losing 2 out of 50 is not a huge loss, but 4 out of 7 feels like a disaster. :(

The dominiques are hatching now. I have about 4 pips out of 27 eggs so far.

Heidisgran..... I'm about to start up a batch tomorrow with dry hatching. First time attempting it. Keep the humidity about 25 until lockdown? I've got a dry sponge in there to add water too if need be in case it dips lime u mentioned in above post. Any differences with temps? Appreciate thoughts before I start

Okay! The little zebra finch has hatched!! He's so tiny it's hard to tell if it's actually a bird. I could only get one good picture before mama bird wanted to sit on him again. Lol
The egg is the size of a dime (Canadian), so shows you how small he is!

Here he is with the other egg

Add no moisture until day 18, then up it towards 65%.as I understand it.

I just set a coffee cup about half full of water in mine. It's keeps it around middle 20s to lower 30s for several days. Once it drys out and I observe a drop in humidity I add more water to it. When I go to lock down I have a larger plastic bowl underneath the hardware cloth floor the eggs set on. I fill it and the humidity gets to the middle 50s and that's where I let it ride. Once the hatching begins It starts climbing. Also, I usually zip tie a paper flap in front of the fan when I lock down, just so the air doesn't get blown directly on the pipping eggs. I've learned that the air blowing on them will dry the membranes and make them shrink wrap after pipping. I only have to help one every now and then this way.
I don't think it's necessarily bad if every last egg doesn't hatch. Some just ain't meant to make it. It's been my experience that chicks that hatch much later than the others almost always have some kind of irregularity. Plus, for me, it's much easier to get rid of an egg vs. a lifeless baby chick.
