I've had these so-called cuckoo marans chicks for 8 weeks now and I am starting to wonder if they are really cuckoo marans. They don't have their barring yet, is this normal?

Huh...
I may have to look into this. Any suggestions on what they could be?
I've only have/had a Black Marans and a Black Sexlink. I'm not sure what these are. I'll find a photo of my Black Marans for reference. She's half Cuckoo half Copper marans (a sexlink)

With the leg color they have the do look like Marans but not cuckoo.
Probably black or black copper. There are also so hybrid cross Marans available now. Midnight Majesty, Noir Marans and a couple others that females are black and males are barred.

I do think at this time they do look female. I've raised several Marans and my boys usually have big red combs and wattles by 8 weeks.
As always a chick can fool you once in a while.

By 12 weeks you should see sex specific feathering start to appear.
Good luck and do post pictures as they age.
