Arizona Chickens

Hello all! Finally got the neighbors' old dog run moved over to my yard and moved the "injured butts" into a temporary diggs. The amercauna is doing really well, most of her feathers is growing in well and she is putting weight back on. The red is getting better but is still very sluggish. Her vent is back to normal size but she still has drippy poops (medical term I'm sure) And she is very thin. She is eating better but, I am still worried about a impacted vent or stuck egg. She isn't laying at all either. Someone on the health boards mentioned using a gloved finger....Not really ready for that. lol. Thats gotta be illegal somewhere!!! Ha. Anyone else got something to add, she is the sweetest little red (sex-link) hen. Calm and very personable. But she has to be productive...Eggs are kinda my thang!!! Thanks all.

I've been hatching some maran eggs and have had a couple of the little guys try to hatch out of the small end of the egg. I assisted them in hatching and all ended well.

The eggs were incubated with the big end up. Any idea why these guys were upside down?

If they are clears I scramble for the birds, if partly developed I put them in the worm bin or compost pile.

Egg hatchablity decreases after one week. So you may not be doing anything wrong. I've noticed switching from an incubator with a old fashioned manual control to the Hovabor Gensis with digital controls that it was A LOT easier to keep temp and humidity stable. Might be worth investing in if you are going to do much hatching.

I know it's late notice, but if anyone is interested, we are hosting a Super Bowl Party 3:00pm tomorrow and everyone is invited, kids included. Bring your own alcohol and we request you bring some sort of side dish to share. Just PM me for the address and phone number. As a general location, we are about six miles Northwest of Arrowhead Mall.

I would love to attend and meet some of you. But, I'm scheduled for a hip replacement on Thursday and can't risk getting exposed to any colds, flu, etc. After putting it off for 3 years, now that I've committed to it, I need to see it through!! When it got to the point that I couldn't walk unassisted, my kids all ganged up on me and convinced me that it's time! I hope you have a great party, and I'll be there in thought!

who is doing your hip. My mother had 2 knees, 2 hips, 1 elbow and 1 shoulder, I had 1 knee all with Core. They seem to have great doctors. A while back we saw a doctor with them we were not sure of, the next appointment we had was with his replacement. He was with them only a short time. Must not have been to their standards.
