Arizona Chickens

Too soon.

Some of the boring partridge-y looking ones end up being the prettiest. The mille fluer cochin project people found that out the hard way

The dark one may be too dark, but who knows? Not me

Little gray Roo update..... Since I didn't have any interested parties here on BYC Forum I listed our free 9 wk old roo on craig's list this morning. Found a home in less than 2 hours. We have played phone tag all day today trying to meet up (Mom is in the hospital so the day has been crazy!!) and I just transferred him to his new owner about 30 minutes ago. He will be going to 7 acres in Gilbert. I'm sure he will have a great home with lots of room.

I just wanted to show you some pics of our dutch chicks that hatched under our RIR bantam hen. 5 hatched, but 1 just disappeared yesterday. I think it got out through the chicken wire and the other chickens got it.

The two hens, Ethel and Lucy, and Cap'n Morgan are teaching the chicks to eat.

I have another broody hen, so we are collecting a few more of my DS's 4-H chicken eggs to stick under her.

Angie

no chicks yet but the broody seems to be simply standing above the eggs and very still.

I have her ice water in a cup in the corner and some layer feed in a tin in the other corner and she is isolated so the other chickens can't get in and if there are any that hatch, they can't get out.

Here are some pictures of our chicken stables. We don't have a "coop", but a closed in stable with walls over 5 ft, and the top enclosed with chicken wire. It isn't as cute as some of the chicken coops I have seen, but the chickens like it, and I feel better knowing they are protected from the our frequent predator visitors.

Angie, I really like your chicken room. I don't think the chickens care much for cute and like you said, they are safe and happy.

Great job~

Tucson Tofu, your first chick looks 'sharp'. Hehe. Half hawk aye?

I'm still mourning my chickens. It's been hard to get out of bed lately too but this thread cheers me up quite a bit. Double thanks for keeping this thread alive. OTL
