Arizona Chickens

We added a gravity feeder to the coop yesterday. It holds quite a bit of food!

Fugly was chasing off small birds from the morning feed, crowing at them and letting them know who's boss. I told him he was a good boy and snuck him some mealworms when the girls weren't looking.

It was already too windy to rake the yard when I got off work so I'm staying in the house. Made some banana bread and played with the dogs for a while instead.

What's everyone doing today?
Very nice feeder! I have a more "white trash" version of that in my bachelor pad pen. I go out of town sometimes and wanted to be able to fill feeders so no one has to feed the chickens, just collect eggs, while I'm gone. And didn't have anything in that pen, so I wandered the yard looking for random stuff to make one. It actually works pretty well!:cool:

I'd like to be able to come up with a better way to keep clean drinking water supplied for them for especially in the summer, but so far what I have tried grows that green algae in it. I'd like a way to be able to add a block of ice through the top to be able to keep the water cool for them too. They will still be able to stand in the pans of water all they want to.

I love it! Honestly, whatever works. We didn't have anything big enough laying around so I had to buy new :idunno

My father in law used to put bleach in his homing pigeons water once a week to prevent canker/frounce and it had the added benefit of preventing the green algae too. It seems bad, but his birds never suffered from it. I try to find a way to keep waters in full shade as much as possible, even if that means putting up boards to block the sun from all angles, and use black pans as much as possible because light colors will reflect light for the algae slime to grow with. I have added bleach to their water but less often, more like once a month. They've never showed any ill affects from it.

How much bleach? I'm also going to be looking into getting some new water pan's for mine because I want to get away from using these galvanized metal one's. They are starting to look bad in the bottoms. They stand in those too. Black one's sound like they might work better.

I got a 5 gallon eaterer at TSC a while ago. The lid lifts off, more than big enough to put ice in it. It's plastic not galvanized. You can add a little acv or just clean them with white vinegar if they get gross.

It does set to what you want for your humidity level, I just started it and it seems to be pre-set for what I am wanting for the first 18 days, at the end of that, I am going to have to set it for a higher humidity..

I bookmarked it online I think I'll pick one up when I get my bonus from work this Spring. Thanks for the update!

Are you talking about the Miller Little Giant one? I had a 3 gallon one but they kept getting dirt in it. They decided that right next to it would be a great place to do the dirt baths in, and the dirt went flying all over. I knew about adding the ACV to it, and that only solved the problem with the water that was inside of it. Anyway's, I gave away the thing to my next door neighbor's that I gave those 2 chicken's to for Christmas, and yes I told her about the ACV for it too.
