Arizona Chickens

There's another place that is killing their pig's off now because of it also. I forget where I read it at.

It doesn’t help that a lot of folks (including some who shouldn’t own animals) have decided to start homesteading... I know a few folks in my town (I live out in the boondocks so not myself) have been ticketed for having livestock pigs, goats, cattle, chickens (in city limits you’re allowed 3), etc... Also when all this started a lot of folks bought enough meat to feed their families for a year, my local grocery stores are just now starting to have meats on a regular basis again.

My DH said that people are going to be surprised in maybe 2 or 3 week's when the price of all of those are going to go up. It will take a long time to grow enough stock back up to the butchering size after they remove the stay at home thing.

yup going to be about a year+ before things get remotely back to normal. Glad my neighbors and I have agreements to help each other... 2 raise meat cattle and 1 raises goats... I was the final one to join and get chickens...

Well, as long as you have water and the feed for all of them, all of you should do ok down there.

Off topic question... do I need a chicken ladder into the coop for a 1’ raise into the chicken coop? Built one but... not sure how useful it’s going to be... it’s 14” wide with 3” spacing between rungs in the middle and 6” on the sides first 6” won’t have an extra rung

Chickens have no problem jumping up 1 foot. You have small chickens now, so just a 6 inch median step would be all that is needed. Your little ramp will not hurt things BTW. and can always be removed/eliminated when seen no longer needed.

Alrighty thanks for the answer. Did the 3 inches because I thought with them being so small they would need the closer steps to get up there (it’s supported together on the back with 2 1x4s)... I also figured that it would give them another shaded place to hide while they are all still small

What I meant by 6 inch median step,, (I did not state very clearly) a 6 inch high block for them to first jump onto, and another jump into coop.
You are already aware that your 20 inch high brooder (just using an example) needs to be covered with a screen to keep 2 week old chicks from flying out.

I understood what you meant 😅 basically a cinder block would do the job... but thank you for the clarification
