DH and i are working on a new coop/run with 2 split pens that way my random stuff and my aloha project stay separate. we are using 2x3s and finally got them stained and sealed. chicken wire is next then we will start putting the bones together, will try to post pictures if i remember to take any. we also dug out the old tarp pond and dropped in a shell liner. it looks much better and my plants and fish are very happy. i bought 2 lilies last year and this year repotted them into 6 new plants, i had no idea they spread so fast, i'm so excited for blooms. we're also landscaping half the backyard with rock that we got free from craigslist. took all day sunday to get it to our house. transplanted some tomato plants. yep, very busy.
going to canyon lake friday and hiking in superstitions saturday, my friends want to try peralta .. ? did i mention i joined the gym too?

:ep HOME INVASION !! I was cleaning and left the door open again. Powder decided it was a good place to take a nap. She likes laying sort of on her side with one leg out. They know I do not let them in, but every chance they get they come inside. :bow I guest I will have to keep cleaning supply's at the door if I can't remember to close the screen door.

Boy is this a familiar scene!!! DH leaves the screen door open sometimes and the Ladies are not shy, and know where the treats come from!

Poor chickie!

We have raised a lone chick before, but they do need more interaction (so take more time), and seem to have a harder time being introduced to the flock on their own down the road.

Ours is now fine and incorporated into the flock, but she didn't really understand what chickens were and was terrified of them, and would run from them panicked (so they would then chase her). It took a while for her to want to be accepted, and to be accepted by the flock so there was a lot of desperate heartbreaking crying for 'mommy' at the screen door (aka me)

.

We had a couple of stuffed animals in her brooder that she cuddled with, but she definitely wanted a lot of comfort and cuddling from us as she was lonely. I guess my 0.02 is if you don't have the time or interest in being more hands on with her since she's on her own, you might want to find a couple more chicks her age after all, or someone who else who has some her age...

good luck!

Oh yes, that's definitely a familiar site! My screen door has a tear in it in one corner where my previous dogs just ran through the door. It's just large enough for my biggest girls to get through. Believe you me, they know where that hole is and how to get through! Whoever says chickens are stupid sure hasn't raised any.

Ours tend to try to clean up under the chicken table. Even at 6 and 8 years old, but two girls are slobs. Of course, the baby is dropping everything left and right, too, but that's just part of learning to feed herself.

The closest WinCo to you seems to be 1235 South Power Road, Mesa 85206. I don't remember where exactly you are, but that's the only one on that side of town. Have you gotten the wheat bran for the mealworms yet? I picked up another four pounds today, at 43c a pound.

We do go out to east Mesa from time to time... I can't wait to check out what they have to offer.. Thank you..

Too bad I missed it before I left work and headed to Pet Club.

They have four-day old RIR and BR chicks. I picked up a RIR since we lost one in our last batch. We put her in with the broody hen and everything seemed fine...until about an hour later we could hear the chick chirping away. I went out and she was out in the run with the other hens. Only one seemed curious about her. I picked her up and tired putting her back in with the broody hen and the hen just tried to peck her away. Now the chick is in our living room in our brooder box crying to be cuddled. Anyone ever tried raising a chick all by itself. I really don't have room for two more chickens so I don't want to go get another one. If it's not a good idea to raise her solo...anyone want a four-day old RIR?

I have only heard that 3 is the magic number.. As you have stated.. We will be hatching next week.. If she does not settle in bring her on
over we will include her in with the other girls..
I did put some fertile eggs on the front patio for you.. I will possibly be home by 4:30 ish?? Just call me.. If not hope that you do find eggs
for your broody hen...
