Arizona Chickens

I guess they're more like a private farm/residence than a regular feed shop (by appt. only). It seems like there should be some kind of feed shop in QC - I know there's a lot of horse farms out there.

There are 2 feed stores that i can think of off the top of my head that sell chicks, but they don't have a wide selection, they are often out of stock, and they won't take hens back if they start crowing one morning. being in a community with close neighbors and an HOA, i'm not willing to risk that. I'm placing an order with mypetchicken.com. they only hatch on certain days, and guarantee that they will be here by the time you get home on thursday. you also don't have to buy 25 at a time. their minimum is 3 which is great because i only want 5.

North Phoenix area - Besides the craigslist ad for older chicks & pullets (35th & Happy Valley),

I get my chickens from here, Vanessa. A++

If you are in north Phoenix, go to Vanessa. She advertises on Craigslist. Tell her John from Prescott sent you.

No, but I am about to... today or tomorrow. They have a pretty extensive list of chicks available. Where do you live? You can get in on my order if you want... shipping is $35 so we can split that if you're interested.

Here is the list of chicks that they have available http://www.mypetchicken.com/Day_Old_Baby_Chicks-c36.aspx

And
here is a tool that they have where you can find what kind of chickens are best suited to your needs
http://www.mypetchicken.com/breedQuestions.aspx

Let me know!!!

You might want to order 2 more than the minimum hens you want to keep, in case one doesn't make it or you end up with a rooster.
It's not hard to rehome the extra chickens - just post them on craigslist and they'll be gone.

Thanks everyone. I forgot about the 35th Ave & Happy Valley spot. Although I've never been there I have seen ads in the paper.

As for Feed: It is high! I have found C & H Hay/Feed on the west side of Cave Creek rd, just north of Bell to be the least expensive. next is Pet Food Depot just up the street on the east side at the next light (Grovers?) They are also located on 14th St. & Carefree Hwy and the other site is right in the town of Cave Creek just as you make the turn east - on the south side of the road. Pet Food Depot also has chicks for $2.99 but not the breeds I'm looking for.

I've been taking advantage of this great weather and sitting out with my flock so they can free range. Everything is so green right now & I know it won't be long before everything is dried up.

Where in Arizona are you? I live in the Glendale/Phoenix area and bought our barrred rock chicks at the Stock Shop ($3 each). I've been very happy with all my chicks from there - they've all been healthy and the last bunch have all been sexed correctly. Also, Pratt's feed store in Glendale almost always has baby chicks for sale.

If you want older chicks, check craigslist - here's a link to someone who has 2 month old barrred rocks & buff orpingtons for $10 each.

There's a hatchery in queen creek also (listed on craigslist), but I haven't checked them out - too far for me.

DARN! I was just down in that area Tuesday. Does Kevin Bloomquist still own that store? I used to shop there years ago. Kevin opened the Stock Shop right after High School (maybe before) We went to high school together and all had different Ag Projects (I think that was his) The first store was in a little tiny place behind Circle K on 51 st Ave & Thunderbird right next door to a bar called the Tack Room then changed to the Back Room because of confussion. Rick Johns built the " Barn Building" on 67th & T-Bird in the early 80's. Then it was a community theater for a while and I don't know what else. I moved away from that area because it was just growing so fast and there was no place to ride the horses peacefully. I'm glad to see that building is being used as orrigionally intended.
