Arizona Chickens

@BlueBaby I just looked because I couldn't remember - we are zone a - southern stuff. I start mine in March with the automatic ship until October.
@meetthebubus I try to grow most of my own - easy peasy in a pot or in the ground. Remember the mint. 3 years growing in a giant pot- never touched by chickens so I planted it in the chicken yard. Those critters stripped the leaves off the stems - didn't eat them - just dropped them down on the ground! I think it will live just fine. My basil is starting to bloom and I generally save the seed. I'm going to drop some in the mint bed. So I'll have basil and mint. Both are not liked by chickens - hahahaha! I've had the same tire full of basil for about 3 years or so.
@Michelle Guynn Welcome back - tent idea is okay - messy and I'd worry about the build up of heat. What about a small coop surrounded by shade cloth like a garden spot? I'm assuming its a HOA/neighbor problem that you are trying to hide the chooks but gardens are usually okay.
@DesertChic still sending positive thoughts your way. Did you go to the Arbico store? I keep saying I'm going to do that as its located in Tucson but I just never seem to have the stamina for doing that and visiting my sister by another mother and Costco! Hang in there I'm thinking of you.
BTW - I have a oncologist appointment at 1pm - I get results of my PET scan. I'm always anxious as this will tell if there is another tumor or not. I'm hoping for no tumor. AND I'm hoping to be able to go off the ugly medicine as its been 18 months without tumors. I'd appreciate good chicken thoughts to keep my anxiety under control. Thanks.

I worked on the bumblefoot issues some more this morning. You guys aren't kidding...it's already HOT out there. I was out from 8-9 and it was reading 97 on the thermometer. I am happy to say that Lady's foot looked great, no more infection and the neosporin wrap healed her foot up quite nicely. After a week of wraps I decided she could go "free", so she no longer wears a boot! I'll take a picture of her for later today and do a "before" and "after". Rosie the RIR was not ready for her scab to come off yet so she got another PRID wrap. And Momo's scab came off...it was big, and deep. I filled the hole and new skin with neosporin and rewrapped. I'm getting more confident doing this, but I'm also lucky that I have calm chickens who will let me do pretty much anything to them. Especially when they are bribed with the basil :p

After taking another peek at Lady's foot, I decided to do 2 more days with a neosporin wrap. She hates me, oh well  I figured with the misters on we will have wet sand and muddy feet, and I would hate for her foot to get reinfected. She still has a small scab from the removal of that big bumblefoot and thorn. Better to be safe than sorry. Take a look at her results!

The swelling has gone down and she puts weight on it again. I am so happy for her! I have several more to treat and hope they all go this well. Thank you to everyone who helped with suggestions and advice along the way.

Momo still has a hard crop. It hasn't soured and her poops are more solid, so it's still very perplexing. But I'm happy she seems to be doing a lot better and is still with us! I really thought we might lose her last week. Also...no sign of the mysterious missing band aids...

I haven't turned on the a.c. bc no one is looking for it yet
Thankfully my previous broodies have been broken
