Well ya, the hen is a pure Ameraucana, SOP, she's not NN. I got her from a friend that used to breed APA black Ameraucanas before she rehomed her flock. She carries both copies of the blue egg gene. The pea comb gene does affect the NN gene making them have less feathers with only one copy. But only about half the offspring would inherit a copy of the NN gene. Just thought I'd mention it. She would add more blue egg gene but would also add the Ameraucana cheek muffs and black feathering. I don't currently have any roosters that carry both copies of the NN gene. But am raising up some turkens from dunlap right now that do, just don't know which ones are roosters yet.

The California department of food and agriculture stated it was the same strain as the Los Angeles area outbreak. Someone transported a chicken!
She wasn’t looking too great the last few days and I found her today. I hope she didn’t suffer. The others all look fine and are acting like they usually do, still laying daily and all. I am really sad though, she was a sweet shy girl. She had the tendency to go broody so I’m glad she didn’t have to go through another long hot summer, but I’ll miss her. Do you think this will affect the pecking order? She was always at the bottom and was bullied quite a bit.

How old was she? Didn't you say that you had moved in the city now? I think that cities get hotter than more open places. There's all of that pavements and street's and the building's are closer together so that can hamper good air flow.
