Arizona Chickens

25 miles from Flagstaff - at 5700' elevation. Cold winters but occasionally up to 100°F + in summer.

I used to live outside of Flagstaff before moving out to the middle of nowhere. Welcome!

No idea how to track who lays which eggs when they all insist on using the same nest, and all the eggs are white. Since you're not supposed to wash hatching eggs, I guess I don't incubate the ones that have dirt on them? Or poop?

Do they sell leg bands for chickens so I can mark which ones were from which hatch? Dreaming of chicken math in overdrive, LOL.

The mail arrived--I got three back copies of Chicken magazine from off of eBay. I'm obsessed.

I washed the duck eggs I just set. Tooooo much poop to go in the incubator! In a perfect world, choosing the clean eggs would be best. I am sure a wild duck has cleaner eggs than these girls here!

I may consider it.. I'll see which tree doesn't make it. I wish i could have citrus in my front yard, but hoa restricts it. One in front would be perfect! I could probably manage on the side yard, but theres only 10' width there. I try to keep roots far from the house and branches away from the roof.
HOA is such a pain! I’m currently arguing with mine since they expect us to make monthly payments without doing any of the work they need to like keeping the neighborhood tidy. They’ve already stopped answering my calls :lau

So they are getting money for nothing?

I haven’t made any of the $50 monthly payments but I’m assuming my neighbors have, I’ve told them repeatedly I’m not making the payments unless they keep up their end of the bargain!

I wonder if they will try to lock you out or tell you that you have to move if you don't give them that money? I don't want anything to do with no HOA dictatorship. I have heard too many stories about them.

We’ve lived here for almost 4 years now and sent them so many letters and phone calls that they just don’t return! I doubt they would want to take legal action since then they’ll really be obligated to put work into the neighborhood, but if it comes down to it I think I’d be willing to take them to court ;) For now I guess you could say we aren’t on speaking terms:gig
