Arizona Chickens

Yes they are the least compliant to his affections. You're very right they are leaner birds and the Minorca are friendly and curious but flighty and somewhat independent (perhaps prefer to be lifelong bachelorettes?). It's all very interesting to me - the flock dynamics - and the problem-solving that goes along with it.

I thought that maybe they didn't like all of Roger's weight on top of them. ;)

Smoke like fog today in Chino Valley. First day I've actually smelled smoke from all the recent fires. I learned a new weather term this past week - Pyrocumulus clouds = clouds associated with fire or volcanic erruption.

My DH made a small door into the covered run in barn big enough to let hens in but exclude Roger. He got to 4 of 5 Minorcas so I sequestered them in a chicken tractor while they recoup - I guess it's the "Recoup Coop". I have a theory he wanted to make them all into Naked Necks like himself.

The small exclusion door could be a solution for others with similar issues- it lets the hens have a place to hide/stop the chase and they get to go in or outside as they choose. I let Roger and all back in at night when they just want to go roost.
Smoke here, too. The Forest Service web site said it is smoke from the Rafael Fire, not a new fire. Still a lot of smoke!
If the Minorcas refuse to come out you will know that they do not prefer Roger's attentions! I have one White Rock the rooster here really likes, she has a bald head and wing "elbows", but she follows him everywhere!

I was driving the other day and thinking how it reminded me of driving in SW washington after Mt St Helens erupted (the smaller 5/25 eruption). But that was a little darker, and there was a lot of ash on the road. eerie though.

They say that the tropical storm coming up the coast of Mexico is supposed to probably throw some wind, rain, and moisture up our way the next few day's. It should cool thing's back off a bit too for a couple of day's maybe?

I sure do hope so! :fl It is already a little bit cooler, maybe the smoke is shading us?

Hopefully, it will just bring the rain and not the thunder with lightening that could cause more fire's.
Some rain is forecast here, tonight & tomorrow. We usually do have lightening with any summer rain. One tree in our neighborhood came down on the house of a neighbor only a couple of blocks from us. Part of living in the trees. Not the good part!

Do you think this is what is going thru roosters mind???

Over here 2,000 miles east of most of you reading this, We had 2 tornado incidents in metro area within 10 days. Thunderstorms about every other day also. The rain very welcome after a drought during most of May and first part of June. Now we are dealing with Flash Flooding.:th

Hoping the rains coming thru AZ will quench some of those fires, and keep things wet so others do not start. :fl
