Arizona Chickens

Sandhill preservation carries Barred Leghorns, it says in the description it is more cuckoo pattern than barred. This is the first year that I have seen them in his list, they were only offered as part of an assortment this year. I would expect that you could order them separately next year. It is nice to have a variety of sources. Leghorns are good layers, no matter what color they are!
Oh, excellent, thank you! Now I need another coop! And that's what I want out of chickens--lots of eggs. :D Mine are cuckoo.

If you had an extra silver grey Dorking male, I'd be planning a road trip. :)

That would make an interesting mix--cuckoo colored Leghorns and silver grey Dorkings. No idea how the color would turn out, but maybe breed for great egg laying ability, 5 toes, and whatever interesting traits show up? LOL!
One of the NNs I got from @BlueBaby is a mix of Silver Grey Dorking and Red Ranger meat bird. Here she is when she was a chick:

Here she is now -- she is the one with the black and white on the right & the other one is one that lays the nice green eggs that was a Legbar hen and her big rooster that @CaroleW has now. You can see the one on the right is quite a bit larger, both had the same rooster, Roger.

Those one's that you got from me seem to be doing good over there. I like getting update's on them from time to time.

The reason I wanted the Red Dorkings (besides that they are beautiful and rare) was to see if the 1/4 silver Dorking hen will make sex-linked meat bird chicks. I am hoping for male chicks to be light and females to be red-brown so I can tell at hatch and maybe sell the pullets -- most people here don't want crowing cockerels! The chicks that hatch with NNs and 5 toes I will probably not eat or sell, they could be the next generation of hens.

They are laying big nice eggs, no matter how hot it is. The one from the "Crossing my Red Rangers" thread is noticeably bigger than her 1/2 sister. I think a cross back to a red bird may or may not be sex-linked, I will find out. She grew faster and larger than her hatch mate, I hope her chicks will get some of that. Desert surviving NN Dorkings with cockerels big enough to eat at 14 weeks old would be interesting. With all the heat waves, even up to Seattle, breeding for survival in the heat is something we all need to think about.
