I just got a new rooster dropped off here this morning, so I hope that he will stay as nice as they said he is so that he won't end up being like those last 2 were.

Nice roosters are not all that easy to find! Special Aloha boys even less so, it seems!

Well, I'm going to try to keep the pretty colored feathering, but breed them to be more non-human aggressive and mellow.

Yes, Roger that @CaroleW now has, and the White NN/Breese mix rooster named Charley that's up there near Kingman that I had before Roger.

Aren't the Aloha NNs pretty mellow? These sure are.

The 2 NN Aloha girl's that I got seem to be mellow enough. The darker colored one is the one being broody right now. I can pick her up out of the nesting box to get the egg's, and she doesn't even try to peck me. This picture was taken back around Easter before I let them in with the rest of the flock.

The 5 NN hens I have are only above the Barred Hollands in my flock. They will get a pen with the new young Dorkings when the Dorkings are a little bigger. That will be 7 hens for the Red Dorking cockerel. The older hens ought to keep him in line. Of the new chicks, the RI Reds seem to be at the bottom of the pecking order. These are the old style Dark Red RI Reds, not the hatchery type and they are very friendly but slower growers than all the rest. Here is one on top of their water the other day.

I ordered the traditional RI Reds just so see how they are. I will probably sell most of them and just keep 3 pullets for layers. I like the Welbars better than I expected, I am tempted to replace my Barred Holland rooster with the Welbars and that boy. I probably can not get away with 2 roosters here forever, but for a while . . .

They normally are. I have no idea why the one I took up to Bluebaby turned out to be a crap rooster. Especially as I still have his egg mates and they are terrific.
